Re: Seattle area upcoming snowmageddon...

According to the news we got 5 inches where I live last night and it is still lightly snowing at my house.  I will be stuck in here for a few days.  As long as my power stays on so I can keep warm I am fine.  Next storm predicted for Sunday afternoon.

Here in Woodinville--I just measured 5 inches on  my back deck. So that makes 15 inches total for both storms---but things don't seem so cold----got lots of dripping icicles hanging all over. Hummingbirds are out zooming around their feeder.

We are at 10" SE of Seattle!    I don't think I can get my vehicle out of my garage as snow is so compact on driveway!

Re: Seattle area upcoming snowmageddon...

@wagirlHow interesting that hummingbirds can survive the cold and snow!  It's good of you to continue feeding them; with snow covering everything they probably can't get to their usual sources.  Do you have to worry about the nectar freezing?  I found this video of hummers at a feeder during a snow storm.

I don't plan on going anywhere for a few days.  I used to worry so much about it when I was working and had to commute to Seattle.

Re: Seattle area upcoming snowmageddon...

@ValuSkr--there are hummers around this area all year round. And they do very well in the cold--they kind of hibernate at night. And I watch the feeder and take it in to thaw during the day and also at night. They buzz my slider in the a.m. so I will put their food out. I am well trained---Woman Very Happy

@wagirl

I tried to put a feeder out and finally gave up because of the squirrels.  It was a constant war and the squirrels won!  I did see one last week so someone must be feeding them around me.

I still work.  We only had one regular school day thus week! Next week is not looking promising with predictions!  The following week we are on Presidents week, no school!  Yikes!

[ Edited ]

In Renton( outside of Seattle) we received about 6 inches ON TOP of two or three inches from earlier in the week.... so it was almost up to my knees going in the back yard with my dogs.... THEY LOVE IT!   I doubt we will get any mail, newspaper or deliveries for at least a day or so until the side streets start to pack down and clear... it will take awhile as it is so cold out.

UPDATE    The mail person made it in her jeep.... GO USPS!!!!!

Re: Seattle area upcoming snowmageddon...

After all the hysteria, DD and I rushed around and cleared the shelves at the grocery.  She lives about 600’ higher than I do and would be cut off.

Sooooo here on the south of the gorge west of Portland we have dry pavement!!!  A nice change from the usual but puts paid to the scare they laid on us.  This is once too often.
