A wonderful step in the right direction in my opinion.  I agree, though, there are questions and much to be detemined about the future.  I heard skepticism on one of the news shows I was listening to, calling it a possibly deceptive move and a "bait and switch"...  can't recall which one, but I did find this online:

"SeaWorld ends killer whale show — but the whales aren't going anywhere

And while the park says it will phase out Shamu's signature show over the next year, critics call the move a mere bait and switch.

Miguel Almaguer reports for TODAY... "  ---> see video at http://www.today.com/money/seaworld-ends-killer-whale-show-whales-arent-going-anywhere-t54981

I get very frustrated with all of the Sea World bashing.  They do SO much good work with rescue/rehabiliation/study of sea creatures--if there is no Sea World, whose going to step up to do this worthy work??????

From what i heard, they really are not, just doing something different. They will keep breeding them, more that can not be released back into the ocean, i do not like that, they should stop the breeding program, whales belong in the ocean,in nature.

I agree with you. They cut fishing lines off of seals and whales and have saved countless injured birds and sea creatures. They have contributed more than anyone can fathom to research and conservation. But they need to keep up with the times and realize treating living creatures like captive circus animals is archaic. Sea World will carry on but in a different form.

California Coastal Commission placed a ban on captive orca breeding. It is illegal.

Re: Sea World to Phase Out Killer Whale Show

They've bred freaks of nature.  They bred two kinds of orcas together.  Both groups avoid each other in the wild.  The fish eating residential orcas and preditory Transient kind that eat marine mammals.  What they got was an aggressive mixed breed that eat fish (mostly squid) Not only did they cross breed, but they bred mothers to sons, etc.  In Nature to avoid in breeding, males leave their famiies to mate with antother family group.  Most orcas caught are Transient kind because they rome all over the world.  But Transient and residental are totally different animals in appearance and behavior.  Because they are long living in the wild, females don't start breeding till they are 17 or 18 years old.  In captivity they breed females as young as 10.  Freaky
