I'm north of Indianapolis a couple of schools started yesterday.  My grandson starts August 7th.  Seems like he just got out for summer break!

@2sisters - either I didn't know or I forgot, but we're almost neighbors.  I'm a couple hours north of Indy, north enough to be on Central time.  It's a rigmarole when we travel south and have to remember to account for the switch.  We have a friend who used to live in our time zone but work in Eastern. A few years of that and he moved south. LOL

Kids here go back the middle of August.  I think around the 12th.

8/26 in the baltimore area.

it would be nice if they went back to doing it after labor day.

they are often let out early due to the heat.

Southern WV, my teacher daughter started back to work today, and first day of class is Monday.  She teaches in a state run school.

First day for students in the public school system in this county is August 22nd.

@JeanLouiseFinch  yes we sort of are neighbors!  We are just northeast of Indy.  About 30 minutes from downtown, we are on eastern time zone.  When we moved here 29 years ago I believe we were central and didn't do the time change.  Now we do and they want To go back to how it was🤷‍♀️

I'm betting that those systems starting in early August or earlier are approximating a year around schedule and are moving toward it. Those starting in late August or, as has been historically the case, around Labor Day, are moving more slowly. Year around schooling with more holidays and more frequent breaks seems to be the ultimate goal of many school systems.

@stevieb Where I live, back before WWII lots of rural schools started early, let out for a couple of weeks so kids could help pick cotton, and then started again.

In Gwinnett County GA they go back on August 5. Can't keep up anymore. Most 9f the time I see the school buses passing by and wonder what's up with that? I had to ask Google the date.
