Re: School begins one week from today in Georgia

The local schools around here, start late August.  They use to start the first Tuesday of September.  After Labor Day, I should say.

Re: School begins one week from today in Georgia

I think I heard on the news yesterday, some schools in SC are already open. In my area I believe they start the first week of August.

My grands don't start school until the day after Labor Day.

In Minnesota, school doesn't start until after the Minnesota State Fair which ends on Labor Day.

Schools near me in Arizona go back to school on August 10.

We also live in Georgia .  I am retired but DH is still in the local school system.  He started back today and his kids come on August 1st.  It has been early August for many years before I retired. The end of school comes right around Memorial Day.

The children still attend 180 days.  In the local districts, there several additional breaks that we didn't get when I went to school.  DH is out the first week of October (some have this in September), Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break.  Some systems also have a February winter break.  His system does not.  Another local system doesn't have a fall break but is out a week in February.

Guess it all works out by the end of the year to be the required 180 days.

If I was a kid in Georgia, I would form a protest group!! That was one of my saddest days-the day after Labor Day is when we went back to school.

Re: School begins one week from today in Georgia

School began in SC this past Monday. Schools here are on a new system, with only 6 weeks off in summer, and some two week breaks during the rest of the year. Sorry, I don't know details since I don't have children.

My two grandchildren go back to school here in NE Texas on Monday August the 5th.  This will be that school district's second year to do the four day school week.  My DDIL hates not only the four days with every Friday off but going back this early in August is just awful.

After Labor Day here in Oregon.  It is nice to let them enjoy a full summer.
