Wow, I just read this story after flying home from Las Vegas tonight on SW Airlines.  I'm glad I didn't know about it earlier.  It would have skeeved me out to get on that plane.

Seriously....I hate flying...the whole process of going through TSA, waiting by the gate and finding a seat (on Southwest).  Since I fly frequently alone to visit my mother in Florida I always opt for an isle seat.  I remember thinking Friday night on my way home what if a window blew out?...crazy thought.

@golding76, you are commenting about the SW flight being inspected by a SW inspector instead of the FAA but what has the FAA done about Allegiant?  They have been investigated numerous times, been found to have several violations but yet they continue on.

I didn't see the 60 minutes on Allegiant but I can tell you as a frequent flier I truly look for the cheapest flights.  

I booked a super cheap flight for $37 on Allegiant .... I never went on that trip due to a family matter.  My "guardian angel" was watching over me for that flight my friends went and had a mechanical issue and made "emergency" landing!  

Allegiant is horrible in all areas but Southwest is a whole different airline on every level!!!!

So sad about the tragedy today but that won't stop me from flying.

I too look for the cheapest flight but I absolutely will not fly Allegiant.  There have been too many pieces written and done about their poor safety standards, etc. 

I know we never know if something is going to happen and it can happen on any airline but I'd rather pay more and take my chances on a reputable airline with a better safety record.  Saving money isn't as important to me as my life.

I am retired now, but I hope that the FAA rolls up its sleeves and gets to work on cleaning up or closing down Allegiant.  Of course no one takes shutting down a business lightly in America; this country is built upon enterprise.  Thus, all will be done, I just bet, to keep the company afloat.  BUT, they must be held accountable for all the incidents and events that have plagued them.

Your guess is as good as mine at this point.  Now that Allegiant's failings are so public, something will be done because it must be done.  Just my thought, of course, but how could it be otherwise?

This is not Southwest’s first fatality. One of their planes skidded off the runway in Chicago in 2006 and hit a parked car and killed a little boy. 

The woman was not “sucked out” the window. She was pushed out by inside cabin pressure. 

We look for cheaper flights too, but only on certain carriers

Marty Martinez is the passenger on the left side who filmed/posted

pictures on social media & has been on many news programs.

This picture below will be the iconic photo for this flight. 

Millions of people have seen it.  

Unfortunately,, the 3 gentlemen in the photo are making a possible

deadly mistake.  The mask is not over their nose.

Bobby Laurie, who re-posted this photo, has a nationally

syndicated travel show & shared this message on Twitter:

I never liked those 737's, they're narrow and I always felt like I was on a bus with a bunch of cattle.  

737's have been around since the late 60's and yes new ones were built and updated obviously and so the question of how debris from the engine was able to pierce the plane will be investigated.  The engines have a ring to prevent what happened.  

About the air masks....how does one get a seamless air tight fit if its supposed to go over both the nose and mouth when its shaped like a hard plastic cup.
