He would have no right to "hold her", that's what the police are for. Stay inside your house and call the police.
That is exactly what a rational, clear thinking person would do.
Unfortunately, this was an 81 year old man wielding a gun feeling threatened by this woman. Why on earth was he outside? If one was frightened, why was he not behind locked doors in the house calling the police?
Elderly people with guns is a very, very bad idea. They do not have the ability to act in a rational way in an emergency situation.
This a horrible tragedy for the woman and her family...just awful.

Words escape me how an obviously "not of sound mind" man's family didn't assess that having a loaded gun in his house was insanity. And why he took it upon himself to play Deputy Dawg is indicative of our gun crazy society.
Bless that poor woman just trying to make a living. So sad!😞

I have some sympathy for the man. At his age he most likely has cognitive issues but he needs to be held responsible.
More attention needs to be paid to the scamming attempts we all live with:/
If he has cognitive issues he should not have a gun. The people who have cognitive issues at the assisted living where I work, I know what their struggles are and how some of them lash out. There have been physical fights there between residents. No way should they have guns, that would be a tragedy in the making.

I have no sympathy for the murderer whatsoever.
He pursued his victim. He knew enough to attempt to take her phone and block her entry to her car. He threatened to shoot her in the head. He shot her multiple times as she writhed in pain after being shot in the leg, deliberately incapacitating her escape. He knew what he was doing.
I hope he receives the maximum punishment possible after a jury conviction.

My heart goes out to this poor woman. The terror on her face is haunting. I can’t imagine what she was going through. The thought that her family has to view this video over and over is unfathomable.
We have no idea if this man was of “sound mind” or not. Age is not an indicator. There are plenty of people in that age range with no impairment. We see a lot of how age is stigmatized in this thread. Plus, you can’t deem him incompetent and then throw the book at him. It doesn’t work that way.
This was vigilante justice, that ended the life of an innocent woman. The legal system in this country will decide what happens to him. They have all the facts. We don’t.
Whoever staged this scam should be charged too.

Uber has banned the account of the individual who ordered Hall’s Uber to Brock’s house, the company said. Authorities believe that individual was either the original scam caller or an accomplice, according to the release.
The company says it’s committed to the safety of Uber drivers and has developed safety features including an in-app emergency button, route sharing features and the ability to connect to a live safety agent.
It’s unclear if authorities have identified the owner of the account or made any additional arrests.

They might want to prohibit the driver from getting out of the car. This poor woman didn’t stand a chance.

@manny2 Unfortunately many people with mobility issues rely on this service.

That would have been the logical thing to do. Unfortunately, some people who own guns are always looking for a reason to use them.
Maybe it was how the news source edited the story, but this guy didn't seem the least bit remorseful for murdering that woman!
I hope we hear more about the authories' pursuit of whomever did this. Teenagers maybe?

The innocent victim's name is Lo-Letha M. Hall, and her obituary can be found online. 😢
