Re: Saying "she or he deserves it"

It's usually said to someone who's received a promotion, a reward, a gift, or even good news. They have done more than required. I like telling someone they deserve their good fortune.

Sometimes commericals on television will mention deserving something.  It is used as a selling techinique.

You're not going to like this,  just my opinion... I think the deserve talk is playing up to what some say are a society of a so-called entitled generation.  As another poster mentioned,  I often hear it on TV commercials.

Did they specifically say that  ...  Lisa deserves it more than others.  Or just that she is deserving, as many of us are and/or maybe not.

It hardly grates on my nerves.

Re: Saying "she or he deserves it"

The phrase "deserves it" is usually used when something good or something bad happens to someone.

Re: Saying "she or he deserves it"

While not everyone liked Lisa, many did. I remember when she showed her home decorated for Christmas. None of the others did. There are Q customers who still care about her while other hosts have been forgotten.

Re: Saying "she or he deserves it"

I think "deserves it" is a subjective valuation.

People use "deserves it" in positive ways & in negative ways.

If someone values a quality in a celebrity, they may think s/he "deserves it" ($, fame?) in a positive way.

If someone values something a person has done that's seen as heroic, they may think s/he "deserves it" (recognition, reward) in a positive way.

It depends on what one values.

Conversely, if a person has committed a crime like a major theft, people may find that person's action abhorrent and use "deserves it" (a punishment as in incarceration?) in a negative way.

I don't know or interact personally with any celebrities, so I don't hold a higher value of them & I don't consider whether any deserve something.
