That statement grates on my nerves. Why does someone deserve "it" more than anyone else? I've heard that mentioned on occasion especially regarding Lisa Robertson. Why is she more deserving than others?

I think of someone "deserving something" as a value judgement. Society often values and rewards those that go the extra mile, at times putting themselves at discomfort or in peril.

I think it depends on the manner in which it's used too (he or she "deserves" something good or bad). I can see it used in the context of Karma…or you reap what you sow kinda thing and I believe in those things for the most part. Of course it doesn’t always happen like that but I like the thought and find it comforting. I don’t know if this is what you mean necessarily....

"People who constantly speak negatively about others may be displaying behaviors associated with gossip, envy, low self-esteem, insecurity, or a need for validation. Psychologically, this behavior can be linked to feelings of inadequacy, a desire to feel superior, or a lack of empathy".
I read this online and it explained "to a tee" how I feel about this subject.

i dont think saying someone deserves "something" means that they are more deserving than others. it would really depend upon the situation, wouldnt it? did anyone say that LR deserved "something" more than others?

A phrase like that doesn't mean that someone else is not deserving, it's just an assessment by someone that a particular person is deserving. If I say someone is beautiful it doesn't mean someone else isn't. If someone states they love pink roses it isn't the same as saying that they don't love red roses.
