Saving Money....Helpful Hints Please....

This is for people on fixed incomes. How can you save money in today's economy? I opened up a special savings account and plan to put $300.00 each month in the account for a special project this spring. Where can I cut corners and save? How do you save? Any helpful hints or opinions please?

This project is a necessity and must be done, so I have to keep this savings account going each month. Any advice will be appreciated. TIA.
