According to the WSJ, Saks may be heading for Chapter 11, after missing an interest payment on the debt it took on to acquire Nieman Marcus.  C'mon all you billionaires - step up and buy stuff from them already!

I was surprised last week to see Roomba also file BK. Reorg or dissolving the company, I'm not certain. Story was on CNBC.

They maintained an iRobot store on eBay and that was removed.

i have a few family members that LOVE their apricots and chocolate covered apricots. their yoku moku cookie boxes make an excellent gift and i love that the cookies are individually wrapped.

Not only billionaires.  These once beautiful department stores are going under because everybody lives in PJs nowadays.

Re: Saks may declare Chapter 11

This breaks my heart.  Woman Sad

I worked as a part timer at our local Saks 5th Avenue in White Plains, NY, from 1982 thru 2001, when the store closed.  I also worked in the Greenwich, CT, store for a few years after.

I don't think I was ever in a Saks store before I began working there.  I was hired when the store was planning to open on Sundays.  I worked Monday/Thursday evenings and Sunday.  I absolutely loved working there.  I was in Fine Jewelry and learned so much about diamonds, stones, etc.  I still have some cool pieces from our vendors who would do jewelry shows.

When I was hired, I owned 2 watches - a Timex I wore everyday and an 18K watch my grandmother sent from Italy, rarely worn.  First thing I bought was a Gucci watch.

The company was taken over by a Middle Eastern company back in the 90's if I remember correctly.  Beginning of the end. I haven't really followed what's going on there since.

The NYC store was, and still is, my absolute favorite store.  I hope it survives.

Re: Saks may declare Chapter 11

I love NYC SFA. It’s always crowded & it’s hard to believe. It’s the only store that carries my favorite lifelong perfumes. I did have to order one from NM which came today. That’s very sad. I heard they wanted to build a casino on the upper floors; I guess that was a sign of trouble.
