The Chicago Public Schools are back in session today.

They have set up "safe passage" routes for some students. This is partially in response to complaints that closing certain schools make it less safe for kids to get to other schools.

There have been shootings and killings along those same routes recently (not on school days). It looks like they have police patrol on these routes.

Since I attended school in Chicago, I feel a sense of unreality about this. I walked to school for 12 years without one problem. Other than getting SOOOOOOOOOOO cold in the winter.

This feels like some parallel universe sometimes. It's very sad it has come to this.
