Shortly after my father passed away from Alzheimers at the age of 69 I heard the song "In The Arms of an Angel" by Sara McClaughlin. It did comfort me but sad at the same time. Bittersweet I guess is the term. I still hear this song on the radio ocassionaly and I always get teary eyed. I sure do miss him.

For me it's "Yesterday," by the Beatles.

This isn't a sad song, but I find it comforting.....

Everything’s Alright

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight.
Everything's alright, yes. Everything's alright, yes.

from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Hi @Zhills

Thanks for the info of where the song was from. I knew that I knew it, but couldn't remember from where.( or is that from whence it came?)Smiley Happy

I had that album years ago.

Great list of songs.  I'm really impressed with your list @Preds, I like all of them.

I think I like sad songs more than I do happy songs.  But, it's a toss up.

@Winkk ... I've always preferred sad songs.  Sung at the top of my lungs when I can. Smiley Happy

OMG the sound of that music from the movie brings me to tears. It makes me cry just thinking about it.  I watched that move eons ago, and to this day just remembering it makes me cry.

No sad songs here!  They make everything worse for me.

@Zhills   "By My Side " from Godspell is comforting as well.

This was popular when I split from my husband.  To this day, I cannot listen to this song when it comes on the radio.

Nobody Knows --  the Tony Rich Project

I pretend that I'm glad you went away
But these four walls close in more every day
And I'm dying inside and nobody knows it but me
Like a clown I put on a show
The pain is real even if nobody knows
And I'm crying inside and nobody knows it but me
Why didn't I say the things I needed to say
How could I let my angel get away
Now my world is just a-tumblin' down
I can say it so clearly but you're nowhere around
The night are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about the love that we had
And I'm missing you and nobody knows it but me
How blue can I get, you could ask my heart
Just like a jigsaw puzzle it's been torn all apart
A million words couldn't say just how I feel
A million years from now, you know, I'll be loving you still
The night are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about the love that we had
And I'm missing you and nobody knows it but me
The night are lonely, the days are so sad
And I just keep thinkin' about the love that we had
And I'm missing you and nobody knows it but me

When I was in my teens Rene Zwellwiger singing All By Myself cracked me up. I think a sad song gives us the opportunity to grieve and feel our loss(es.)
