STANLEY DONEN, GONE, NEVER FORGOTTEN

[ Edited ]

Legendary, sophisticated director and choreographer Stanley Donen is dead at 94.

Directed:

"Singin' in the Rain"   (which many consider the best musical ever made)

"On the Town"
"Royal Wedding"

"Charade"

"Funny Face"

"Indiscreet"

"Two for the Road"

among others.  Talent to burn, of course.

Upon receiving an Oscar from Martin Scorsese, he delivered a short speech considered a model of Oscar speeches.  He was elegantly self-effacing.  He charmingly sang and danced of his delight, starting at about the 2:40 mark in video, Irving Berlin's "Cheek to Cheek":

Would that the world that Donen represented not pass as it is, so quickly from our sight....

I was sad to see this news earlier today.  "Funny Face" and "Two for the Road" are two of my all-time favorite movies.  Thanks for sharing that video, @Oznell .  It was so charming.  Great to see Gregory Peck.   My Dad looked so much like him.

oznell,

The clip of Stanley Donen receiving his Oscar was exhilarating.  Thank you so much.

It was painful to see those stars who have since passed on.  Wasn't that an elderly Jack Lemmon from the side in one shot?

I'm getting pumped for the big event!  Yahoo!!!!

(Interesting.  One of Donen's several wives was Yvette Mimieux)

Re: STANLEY DONEN, GONE, NEVER FORGOTTEN

I loved the clip of Mr. Donen singing and dancing at the Oscars. Thank you for that, Oznell as it gave me some insight to the director!

While I wasn't familiar with him as a director, I certainly was with his films.  Every one you listed is a winner  and his legend will definitely live on in the world of entertainment.  I thank him for such superb movies and may he rest in peace, he left behind his place in movie history for sure.
