Not trying to be rude, I hope you understand that.

But millions of women who never worked outside the home DO collect SS - stay-at-home wives can collect on their DH's contributions as soon as HE is eligible to collect himself.

That's the key, the op's husband isn't old enough to collect SS. She is but didn't contribute. Because he's 11 years younger, she has to wait a long time.

It's a combo of age and credits. There's a chart on the SSA site. If you were 52 when you became diabled you would only need 30 credits. Again something to look into, good luck and congrats on finding happiness with your best friend.I have NEVER seen such cruel replies to my situation. You don't walk in my shoes!
Some of you thank you for your kind replies-there a few of you (you know who you are) that are miserable people.
#1 Yes, I worked all my life (had 31 credits for SSA) then worked for the state until I could not work any more:
#2 I have Meniere's Disease (severe dizziness), Asthma, Type 2 diabetes, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Please don't say I didn't prepare for my retirement-sometimes life has other plans for you-I shutter to think if it were to happen to you.
I left my first husband when he attacked me and had to live in a women's shelter after 17 years of marriage. He is the state employee and is remarried (poor woman-stupid woman). He was a deputy in a prison system.
I was lucky enough to marry my best friend who happened to be 11 years younger and no he is not my boy toy-but a true man.
I am NOT a lazy person-worked since I had to get a work permit at 15.
You nasty people will get yours in your next life. I know I can sleep at night knowing I am a good person. Thanks for the rant-I'm sure there will be more to say by you.
