Having worked for banks for over 40 years, you can get your checks printed from whatever source you want. But - the printing is not always the same if you go to an outside company....the MICR number (routing number) and security features that are a given with the company that your bank uses are really important. If the outside company you choose has the same security features, then go for it and save a few bucks. Personally, I trust the security of my account and my checks to the company my bank contracts with. There are two companies that most banks use....that's what I trust.

I have a small locallly owned bank 2 miles from my house. They know me, greet me by name at the drive through, have paperwork ready to sign when I call them and go down later, and in general take care of my banking needs.
I know they will take care of any issues, so why go elsewhere? It's too simple to just order checks through them. I pay for them, but the bank has more than been worth it for me. Support local!

@Tinkrbl44 try Walmart. I have used them twice before over the years. I got rid of some last year because I no longer have that account. Why can't they give you a choice of how many you need?
Everything for me is paid on line except for one Storage Company that charge $4.95 to use my Debit or Credit Card. I usually got 6 checks from my Bank for about 5.00 but got tired of doing that, so I switch to another Storage Co. that does not charge me to use my Card.

I feel like that’s safe because they have all my information anyway.
@Annabellethecat66 .... I agree with you .... I order my checks through my bank because I feel it’s the safest for me .... I rather pay more & feel secure 😉

Especially when of the main criteria was for advice about SECURE places. Not just cheap but cheap and SECURE. The safest way would of course, be your bank.

".....So ...... now I'm thinking about account SECURITY. "
THEN IT WOULD BEHOOVE ANYONE CONCERNED ABOUT SECURITY TO NOT SKIMP ON COST AND GET THEM THE SAFEST WAY THEY CAN, WHICH WOULD BE THROUGH THEIR BANKING INSTITUTION; OR THROUGH THE BANK'S PRINTERS IN WHICH CASE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SAVE ANY MONEY.

Yes, like I said, they have my information. I assume the company they use has been checked out throughly. Much more than I could check out.
I’ve always done that.

I'm down to my last book of checks and checked the prices .... the company that does it through my bank seems "secure" enough but their prices have jumped by about 50% !!!
So, being the good price-checker that I am, I've looked at other sources ....and all I can say is WOW. Lots of companies print checks -- even Walmart! -- and prices vary considerably. I googled a search for best check printing, and it even suggested that a local print shop might be a good choice offerring speedy printing.
So ...... now I'm thinking about account SECURITY. Yes, many of us use less checks than we used to, and anyone who we send a check to has our routing number and account number right there on the check ..... but how secure would you be getting checks from a business supply store or an online stationery store?
The last batch I had printed were in 2015, so this isn't a frequent purchase.
What are your thoughts about this .... and any place you especially liked .... and for what reasons?
TIA!
The last time I ordered checks was from Costco. I pay my bills on line - so it takes years to use up my checks.
