SOS Math teacher (me) -- when words don't work

I teach teens that could be classified as "reluctant learners of math!" I feel I am not "getting through" to my sophomores. They are not "getting" the concepts. Explaining on an individual basis works --- sometimes.

Kinesthetic learners need to move and use manipulatives that meaningfully link the activity to the concept.

Any ideas from your experiences about what worked or might have worked for you in high school so that you would understand math? These would be so appreciated by me... thank you!
