SO Sick of Dealing with Cat Food!!!

I have a multi-cat house (all rescues), & I try my best to feed them high-quality food....both dry & wet.

Over the past few years, there have been recalls on some of the top quality brands, there have been CONSTANT formula changes,& there have been batches of wet food my cats LOVE. I buy the same thing again, it has a different batch number, & they won't touch it (which tells me certain batches are inferior).

I'm SO sick of this!! It results in lots of digestive upsets, including vomiting & the poops. My recent new "find" was Solid Gold Indigo Moon grain-free dry food. The cats I fed it to LOVED it, plus it helped to balanced their weight (I didn't feed to all my cats, since some have different needs). I called the company yesterday because my cats were having issues. They were extremely nice, & said they'd had problems with moisture content in a few batches. They're working on correcting it. BTW, Solid Gold is a USA product. NO MORE of ANY foods manufactured in any other country for me! Recalls, upon more recalls.

Does anyone else find cat food a total PITA?

I do not have an answer, but I can certainly sympathize!

I think it is an ongoing process.

I do have a question, if you don't mind. Where did you purchase the Solid Gold Indigo Moon cat food? I may want to try that! Smile Thanks!

Smile Hi Ivenjay

I purchase my large bags of pet food from WAG.com. The prices are the same as I pay at my local "good" pet store, plus they deliver fast. Wag has excellent customer service- love them. I like that I don't have to load big bags of food in & out of my car- that gets heavy!

I would wait a little while before buying Indigo Moon. The batches that are in the marketplace currently are the weird ones. The texture is crumbly, so there's waste (& its too expensive for that!). Solid Gold also makes another one called "Katz-n-Flocken". In the meantime, I'm going to try that one.

Thanks so much! (I will wait - I am still getting through some Blue Buffalo and recently I had to put a cat on C/D prescription diet from the vet's - I HATE doing that!)

Re: SO Sick of Dealing with Cat Food!!!

Since I have a cat that has had kidney disease for three years, plus another 6 year old cat, I can certainly sympathize with what you're going through. At first she would eat the special diet food, then I had to start mixing it with something like Fancy Feast that tasted really good, and now it's almost all Fancy Feast and Purina One wet, and it has to be the Pate, or sometimes the Gravy Lover's. Sometimes she loves a particular flavor, and later that day she turns her nose up at it.

I was worried about the nutritional content because her diet should ideally be low in protein, sodium, and especially low in phosphorous. I called the company and found that those percentages are as low or lower than what is called for in the special kidney diet, so I was elated. To be honest, I don't even know where Fancy Feast is made, but my cat is 16 now, and her kidney disease is just now starting to escalate, so I don't even care about that, all I care about is that she eats.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, sometimes you just have to feed them what they like, and hope it's good for them as well. I thought about trying the "better" brands with no grain, etc., and did try a few, but always go back to the FF. Those lower priced commercial brands are not all bad...in fact, I had a little white miniature poodle that ate almost exclusively Purina Moist and Meaty dog food her whole life, and I sometimes worried about the nutrition aspect, but she lived to the ripe old age of 18 and still acted like a puppy until the last few months when she got sick.

Good luck to you, I know it's hard!

Re: SO Sick of Dealing with Cat Food!!!

I buy all of my cat food/treats/supplements/other supplies at Amazon.com, as they have a HUGE variety, free shipping, and the best customer service.

I do understand and empathize, though. Smiley Wink
