I have my mothers 45's of  Sinatra.  At 86, I remember all the great ones and danced to a lot of them in High school and beyond.  Those were singers, not like the hype today.

Just them, the band and their voices.

It was so amazing to see a performer such as Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Streisand, Neil Diamond, etc be able to stand alone on a stage and command the room with their songs and incredible talent.

It occurred to me later than when a performer needs a bunch of people on stage or lots of silly gimmicks, it was to cover up for their lack of talent.

The 1950s is one of my least favorite decades but Frank’s voice and arrangements were in top form. Love listening to him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the nicest guy in real life.

@bikerbabe

When I first moved to Los Angeles I met a woman who had previously worked in his office for several years.  She had high praise for his giving money to people in need.

When he was there, reading all the various newspapers, if he read about a family having tough times, or some other unfortunate situation, he'd have his accountant send them a check.  There was an innocuous account with an untraceable address that funded these payments.

My co-worker said he never wanted anyone to know that he was the person behind it because it would only prompt scores of people wanting money.

While Frank was very secretive about his donations, he gave away a LOT of money in his lifetime.

Like most of us, Sinatra wasn't all good or all bad. He was definitely quite philanthropic. A family member was a friend. If you were on his good side, he could be your best friend. He did have a temper and mood swings. I'm not sure how much alcohol was a factor. Fame and everything that comes with it isn't easy to handle.

Ole Blue Eyes is BACK, honey!

I love Frank Sinatra....have you seen Young at Heart, with Doris Day?

Good movie.

My daughter had a crush on him after watching that. LOL

Not to hi-jack your thread, but for those of us who appreciate, this is pure pleasure to listen to:

Perry Como with Connie Francis (I love Perry Como, too)

@BoopOMatic  I agee, "Young at Heart" was a good movie.  Loved Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, and Ethel Barrymore in it.  Liked him in "Guys and Dolls" too, another good movie.

Re: SINATRA -- NOVEMBER 1, 1957

@twinsister,  you saw him at Carnegie Hall?   One of your perks as a New Yorker!   How I would have loved that...

I'm another baby boomer who loved music of earlier eras, early blues, Tin Pan Alley, jazz.   I didn't really get to see any of my prized performers of that era perform live--  except one:   Lena Horne.   So lucky to see an end-of-career Lena in concert, vibrant and magnetic as ever...

Great pictures, @just bee!

@Oznell - it is timely you mentioned Lena Horne.  Today a  Broadway theater was renamed in her honor.  A great talent.  Luckily you were able to see her perform.

I've read a bit about him. He was always helping people, but he didn't take any BS, either!

Here's one of my favorites ... with my oh-so-favorite singer of all time.   It was my intention to name a daughter after her, but I only had two sons.

SINATRAHeart

In the 70's when I was a teen my Aunt (who was a member of the Sinatra Fanclub) had 2 tickets to see him at the Latin Casino in New Jersey. She could not go so she gave the tickets to her son who asked me to go with him.

We went on the Fan Club Bus with Sid Mark (famous Sinatra radio personality) and it was one of the highlights of my life. We had 2nd row seats...it was like a dream. We still talk about it today.

I saw Frank again with Dean Martin at the same venue and that was just as wonderful....great times and special memories.

The odd thing about it is I was a 70's Rock Fan but Sinatra won me over big time.

Re: SINATRA -- NOVEMBER 1, 1957

I liked the 40s Sinatra the best. Great songs-and he wasn't playing with the lyrics like more recent times. I can see why there was swooning in the audience back then.

At Christmas time his Chrismas album was always playing at our house-'I love those jingle bells..........all the way!' And then the jingle bells ended the song. (and started it!) It was such a happy time when we'd hear those bells playing, lol.
