"Shocked" & "unreal"...,..to finally figure out the Bruce Springsteen song 'Born in the USA' is really a sad, disillusioned song? Almost an anti-American song about the Vietnam vets coming back?

No it was E saying Happy F veterans Day...yes I know about Bruce's song....never liked him or it. Everyone has a right to criticize...but he makes millions off that junk.

I'm more displeased with his misogyny, most recently his lyrics about Lana Del Rey.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

oh he has a new album coming out {#emotions_dlg.glare}

He lyrics about women/ girlfriend, mother are nothing new....yawn.Smile

With all due respect, misogyny isn't yawn-worthy, in my opinion. It's always hard to hear, hard to know some of his fans love his lyrics. But I agree, it's nothing new with him.

I meant his antics and unnecessary drama to sell albums are yawn worthy. {#emotions_dlg.mellow}

Whew!{#emotions_dlg.blushing} Thanks, nunya! I started a response several times, hesitated, because I wasn't sure. I appreciate the clarification.

It's a faux- controversy. Bruce Springsteen has worked tirelessy on the behalf of veterans. The real reason he is being criticized this morning is because he supported and campaigned for a democrat.

I didn't know anything about his support of a candidate, wookie. Thanks, that helps explain the sudden concern about his lyrics. Sure wish we all could get past this partisan stuff.

News to me. Guess I'll have to Google it. I thought the uproar was about the f bombs and the rapper at the concert last night for veterans.

I don't and never will look to Hollywood or the Music industry for guidance or leadership when it comes to whom I choose to donate, support OR vote for . . . left, right or in the middle. I consider myself to be an equal opportunity voter. Smiley Happy

Same here. I guess there might be exceptions, but generally the entertainment industry isn't the place to find political guidance.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I feel the same way. I couldn't care less. But it wasn't too long ago, that the DixieChicks were annihilated and accused of not being patriots for voicing their opinion. I hope we aren't reverting back to those times.

To be honest, I don't follow the music or entertainment industry at all. I don't know who half of the people that are talked about are. i've never been a fan of Bruce Springsteen. The only song he came out with that I liked was, Dancing In The Street. As an aside, the Naval Academy brought in Bruce Springsteen once to perform a concert for seniors and their guests. I was invited, and went.

I have that same hope! During 'that time' there was this new brand of faux patriotism. It was a 'you're with us or you're a terrorist' mentality that was pretty embarrassing, I must say. I'd love to think that has waned and is on its way out for a more traditional brand of patriotism that doesn't include people not being able to have different POVs than others without being called un-American. I was patriotic way before patriotic was cool and it never meant that everything was 'my way or the highway' on such extreme levels as we were experiencing shortly after the beginning of this century.

I guess this got posted in the quote of my post in your post . . . somehow.

Anyways . . . they are a blip on the radar. It was in 2003 so over 11 years ago. I looked it up and it was right before the Iraq War . . . I'm guessing Congress was voting on it at the time they said or did whatever they did . . . and I think but I don't recall they were NOT on US Soil when they said it and being rather soon after 9/11, 18 months, and the country was still very raw & emotional over that . . . could have added fuel to the fire. Like I said before . .. I like many, many kinds of music, even country . . . but I don't pay much a mind to any of them other than entertainment purposes only.
