Remember the shooting at the AME church in Charleston? Only 2 years ago. Complete hatred for the innocent AA people in the church.
@Cakers3 I remember that Charleston attack too well. The church was 2 doors down from the hotel we stayed in just days before. Walked past it every morning for coffee. My heart ran cold when I heard about the shootings.

@Cakers3 No his friend was already sitting next to him in the theater. The manager asked me if they let anyone in and they definitely did not. I made sure of that. Even if they did, who really knows why they did?
I would never profile but I'm not going to take a chance on being murdered and others being murdered while I sat there doing nothing. They had to know using those doors in that way was not allowed, no matter why they did.
I flew across country two months after 9/11 and stood in the boarding line in front of a Middle Eastern man behaving nervously. Maybe just a nervous flier, maybe nervous about being profiled. Trust me the whole moral conversation played out in my mind. I said nothing and nothing happened.

For as long as I can remember, In September/October during our most religious Holidays, police cars have been hired to be outside our Temple or synogogue.
Glad they're there for protection, but very sad that it had become necessary.

@Greeneyedlady21 Ok - I don't know what they could have been up to except to let others in for free. I misunderstood because you originally said one person sat down.
Anyway, as I said the profiling comment was not directed to you.
I agree that we should be more aware today of our surroundings; but I don't want this country to end up like Nazi Germany, either.

@Greeneyedlady21 Unfortunately, the climate in today's world can lead us to be suspicious of everyone and anyone. There's the chance we can also begin to profile & I'd hate to see this happen.

@Shanus I don't want to profile either but sometimes you have to think about it and especially if you see someone acting suspiciously. It would be better to make that mistake than to take the chance and possibly face the consequences. We all matter and we all deserve to feel safe.

I have often wondered about everyones back being to the front door of our church. We are too small to have security persons.

I understand all the issues and it is huge to me, for sure. Can't say more than that but it is. Something I take very seriously.
The guys in my movie theater were white late 30's or 40. Their behavior is what prompted me to follow every instinct I had. I did sit there for enough time to contemplate, but knew I had to act. Still proud of it to this day.
I wanted to see Dark Knight so badly. After Aurora I knew I had to do it or fear would rob me of one of my favorite things in life. Going to the movies. I sat there about a week later waiting for the movie to start. In front of me was a mother with her two young kids. I sat there and just cried, thinking about kids in that theater in Aurora. I watched the movie, watched every move people made. I admit it. It was scary but I did it.

@dex Certainly not meaning anyone in particular but the possibility that all of us could fall into this trap out of fear.
