Thank you Noel. Guess I wasn't the only ""neurotic"" kid. I suppose those kids under their desks were really crazy.

This was the classic photo going around at the time when the claims were made that he banged his shoe:

A lot of people really were terrified of the cold war, they made such a big deal about it. We saw it on the news constantly.

That had to have filtered down to many kids who overheard or just watched TV news.

Hey, remember that movie that was made not all that long ago about a kid who grows up in his parents' underground bomb shelter and then emerges to modern society? That was pretty clever. I can't think of the name of the star.

Re: Russian Olympic Commentators Very Rude

When I went to NZ in 1986, I was introduced to a family who had emigrated there from Russia (wife) and England (the husband) and they were truly amazed that there was so much fear instilled into American children during the 60's. They both emphatically stated that the Soviet Union truly suffered from the aftermath of the WWII and absolutely were not planning on bombing the U.S. Rebuilding took much longer than other countries because they refused assistance from The Marshall Plan as well as losing millions of citizens from war. They did not have it in them to fight another war.

My daughter and I are big fans of Christopher Walken! Both of us do a pretty good impersonation of the way he talks, LOL.

We do the Walken "Wow" really well, LOL!

When I first came here, I used that as a sig line for awhile: "Wow." CWalken

I had people telling me that was my comment on what I'd posted, which I got sick of, so I changed it. A few others were big fans, too, so that was fun.
