Many clinically depressed people self medicate with drugs and alcohol. The addiction is a symptom, not the underlying problem.
I'm well aware of the symptoms of depression, I was simply commenting like everyone else. What may have been 'solvable' problems for most people may have been unsurmountable in his mind, that was my point. You don't know and neither do I.

Boy, was I shocked! The story the headline linked to discussed his money issues and his stalled career. It said he needed to sell his 35 million dollar estate for financial reasons.
The comment section really was the worst...people saying he deserved to die because he was a lib-tard...nasty stuff like that.
I never knew there were so many Robin William haters out there...
It was eye opening.
I know next to nothing about his politics but my understanding is there were some financial issues that caused him to relapse before his last trip to rehab. There's no question he was a great talent and generous with his time, but some don't quite understand why he took this course of action.

How true, Hooty.

I just could not care less about his financial situation.
It's just incredibly sad and such a loss.

I hope his death will lead to more understanding about depression and how widespread the illness really is.

I thought we already knew that depression was an illness and that it was widespread.

He took the answer with him.
Exactly, thank you! He and almost everyone else who has walked his path. What difference does it make to dissect it? Let's hope that he will finally have the peace that must have been eluding him.
I feel the same way. It's disgusting that the gossip vultures began circling minutes after the announcement of his death. I hope it won't cloud the memories of the special, caring, compassionate, gifted man who left us far too soon.

Not everyone knows that.
Some people think it's a sign of a moral failure...if you just work hard enough - you can ""snap out of it.""

I doubt that his death will change that.
