I remember for quite a few years after his death people were reporting "Elvis sightings" all over the U.S.  I was a big fan, still am and was sad that he passed at such a young age.  I"ll always remember the date, 8/16 because 2 years later my beloved father was murdered, so that date will forever be imbedded in my mind. :-(

I really never understood the appeal of that man ... which is probably why I don't even remember when he died.

He was one of those celebrities people put on a pedestal, and I think the illusion of Elvis far outweighed the actual person.

I don't really know how much illusion there was for fans.

For one thing, when he was young he was mega-hot.   Comeback Special of '68 - in that black leather jacket and pants.  My my my!  I actually have a pic of that in my house.

Additionally, he had a beautiful voice.   Sure he was very sexy, before he gained the weight, but he also had a beautiful voice!

Rec: Rmember when you first heard that Elvis had died - 39 years ago today?

I was 12 or 13 when Elvis was to appear on the Ed Sullivan show.  My very conservative Father said I could watch, but the moment I let out a sound, the TV would be turned off.

Well, need I say what happened; I let out a squeal like every other girl of that age and the TV was off.  Let me just say my Father was a kind man, but meant what he said and I turned out okay.

Did you know Elvis was a twin?  His twin, Jessie, was stillborn.

All four of them are buried at Graceland.

I've often wondered if the death of his twin brother had a profound effect on his life.   Granted, he didn't even know him, but there's a 'twin thing' that seems to start in the womb.

And here I was hoping everyone forgot about him....

I do remember.  My Mom's best friend was a huge Elvis fan, and called and told her.  Sad the way his daughter found him.

I thought it was his girlfriend who found him.

I had read that he had gone into the bathroom, much earlier.  She was asleep in bed.  Woke up much later and went in there looking for him.
