@KathyM23   I remember when I was little girl, the mailman would deliver mail twice a day at Christmastime.

  Back then everyone sent cards. I used to send 30 or more, now I only send about 12. Many older relatives and friends have passed away.

  Younger people today, don't even send cards. I've never gotten one from my 5 adult grandchildren in their 20's and 30's.

The greeting card business is hurting already. I sent no Christmas cards at all this year, I only received two. My family will get their cards when I see them. Local mail should be less. When I was young, if you left the envelope unsealed, it cost less. I have no problem paying to send cross country, but local is rediculous.

@frenchie Just curious.  Why would it cost less if you left the envelope unsealed?  Didn't they worry about the contents falling out?

@Puppy Lips @frenchie

I vaguely remember that too.  Must have been in the 1950s or 60s.

@EnufstuffWe do get cards from younger people but they are all cards with pictures of their family, not the Christmassy images that used to be on cards.

I mailed about 40 cards and I received a lot of cards this year that I had to start another basket.

I enjoy doing them (and receiving, of course) so the price doesn't bother me.

I bought nice boxes of cards at CVS using my 30% off coupon.

I mailed large padded envelopes to kids with their cards & checks and GD gc's & card-- I wanted to make sure they got to them.  Cost was minimal and delivery was quick🙂

@homedecor1 I don't know if it's just the person behind the counter but here they consider a padded envelope to be a parcel and charge almost 4 times the price to send it.

Oh yea, I remember many, many years ago if the envelope was not sealed. it cost less. Never knew why. I don't buy Cards anymore because the nieces and nephews prefer cash so Zelle does it's job.

Today I mailed a package to California. I weighed it before I left home and it was two and a half pounds. I knew it would cost about $25 to $30. Oh was I shocked and very pleased. For 5 days by UPS it was $17.00 and for 2 days it was $22.00. Of course I chose the 5 days. Now I will be tracking it to see when it gets there and it also includes insurance.

I also remember when growing up we sent lots of Cards and also received many. We decorated with them. We would put tie cords from one end to the other along  the walls and hang the Cards with the pictures facing front. That was so much fun and so festive.

Those were the days!!

@CelticCrafter

I don't know I think it was a few dollars it was a 5x7 padded envelope.

What I found interesting I mailed a regular envelope to my son the same day -- just got it yesterday (10 days for delivery😳) yet everyone else got their "padded" envelopes a week ago🤷‍♀️

@Puppy Lips  the price of greeting cards themselves is ridiculous.

@Teddixat My local Hallmark store has a big selection of greeting cards for .99.  They are quite nice for the price.

@Sage04 My Dad hung a wire from the top corner of the living room to the opposite corner of the living room.  All the cards were hung up there.  That is a nice memory for me.
