If he were to get rid of his phone, he would no longer have a phone bill and could afford gas.  But of course, he probably feels entitled to have a phone.  These commercials just exploit the poor by making them think oh, a 20% (probably higher) payday loan makes good financial sense.

What was the commercial for?  A service like Apple Pay ?

Considering that is a reality for many people, what was the product?  Would base the ridiculousness on the product.

If it's for a pay day loan company, then it's not ridiculous. If it's for ice cream, then okay.

It makes me feel sad.  People are in a bad way, desperately need money, and then end up in worse shape than they were, even deeper in the hole.

TY @MorningLover for sharing the commercial.  I expected some type of payment opportunity from the OP's post but not one tied to an advance on a portion of a paycheck. That can lead to real problems. 

It's one thing to send a GS at college a bit of gas money via Apple Pay tied to my debit card. Since it can be used immedetely it's nice to have for a family emergency.

Or the Lume deodorant commercial that blasts you out of your chair.

Put it on with fingers . . . ewwww . . .  (in all kinds of places). "It lasts up to 72 hours."  Oh, NO! GROSS.

Not going that long without bathing or showering and using a roll-on deodorant ever. Eyerolls.

I see.  It's one of those paycheck loan companies.  They are illegal in my state after so many people got into financial trouble when they came on the scene years ago.

My same well worn response when I see comments about a commercial, or plural.

We DVR every program we watch. Commercials at 15x/60x/300x speeds! We can watch a 1 hour show in 42 minutes, and no "person sitting in a ya'da, yada". Whatever
