@Q-Anu : China Lake is the size of the State of Rhode Island. In addition to thousands of structures, since the Base mission is for Research and Development, there are also many complex electronic/ etc setups everywhere. Yes, the Admiral in San Diego (5 hrs away) sent all personnel who live on Base ( Civilians and Military) were evacuated to Pt. Mugu (3 hrs away on the coast). Can you imagine if your teammate is evacuated to Mugu how difficult it is to coordinate ANYTHING!!!!

@patbz - just one prolonged nightmare for them! I'm sure not even half of the damages have been found there - such a large base.

Speaking of electronics... I saw a report on Twitter that stated the power lines there were actually glowing during 7.1 EQ. Tells me most everything was zapped and melted.

I pray for no injuries as they sort this out, and then they can begin to bring it back to ship shape.

My house is in north Oxnard - between Port Hueneme and Point Mugu Naval Bases. Years ago, I rented out rooms to several military guys and contractors at the base. I remember when most of them were sent to China Lake --- north of Bakersfield. Glad everyone is safe.
