@granddi Sorry, I misread your post. We don't have excessive heat here. We maybe get 2-3 days of around 100 but it's usually mid to upper 80's with some 90's mixed in for our summer. One summer years ago we had 30 days over 90, which is unusual for us. I love all the 4 seasons we get here. No excessive weather in any season. A perfect place to live!

@aoldgirl You need to be in New Mexico. None of that.

You're right, Florida is hot and humid. We treat extreme heat days like you do snow days...."Stay inside and sip hot ICED tea!"
I have found that I can get outside activities done before and/or after the heat of the day!
There is seldom ever anything I just have to do between 12 - 4. By then, we usually have a nice breeze and sometimes a quick shower that cools it off to a tolerable temp!
I do wish it would quit getting hotter every year!
P.S. There is always a pool nearby!
Never had a problem with flies! Love Bugs, yes, but no flies!

We moved to the DFW area and the heat and humidity of July and August have pushed us to look for a cooler get away. Ideally we would like a 3 month rental but purchase could be considered. We need more than a week get away. The heat, humidity and bugs make outdoor activities miserable.
I guess Colorado is the obvious choice. We loved our visits to Vermont. It may be resolved at least short term with a long term lease? Just wondered where any of you go to to escape the heat.
Yes, I do understand that Snow Birds have 2 homes.
@granddi My parents and I used to spend lots of summer time in Lake City, Colorado, a charming out of the way village. There were so many Texas license plates, it was hard to remember what state you were in. Same with Ruidoso, NM.
Mom used to say, "if Texas is so great and wonderful, how come everybody leaves it?"

I'm less and less a winter fan. In central midwest, January is do-able. February is the worst weather month IMO. March sees spring on the horizon. We spend each February in 30A FL panhandle. My friend moved to Dallas and they survive with a backyard pool. My brother swore by 12 months of good weather in his adopted hometown - San Diego. What IS the best year-round town?

We have reverse snowbirds that go to Sedona, Flagstaff or Showlow during the blazing hot summers in the Phoenix area.

Thanks, we have been to Sedona but never thought of Flagstaff

I wish! If I could, I would.
I HATE the heat. I love the cold. I cannot handle humidity with heat so at least one good thing is that the climate I live in is pretty much arid. But, still, even with arid heat I tend to be miserable. I run hot and my body temperature runs from the high 96s to the low 97s.
We used to have a good 8-9 months of cool to cold weather but now we have a lot more hot weather so I'm hating it. Still some cold, during the winter, but not enough for me.

Most everyone in our area of Texas escapes the heat (multiple 110 degree days last summer) to nearby Ruidoso, NM. The beautiful mountains and high altitude provide much needed relief from the searing heat. A lot of folks own second homes in Ruidoso and nearby Alto.

Are there those of you who escape harsh summers of heat and high humidity for a few months living in cooler climates. Where is your cool summer escape?
The coolest place in summer here, my basement.
