I retired at 68, a few weeks before Covid hit us. I wasn't planning on retiring, but DH had something worked out about Social Security and how to take advantage of the spousal receipts. (Don't ask me.)
The party was very embarrassing. They gave me a catered luncheon and gave everyone the opportunity to say something nice. They also gave me a trip to Williamsburg, VA with all the trimmings. Well, needless to say, we were not able to take advantage of that for quite a while. We finally ended up giving the credit back to my company.
I wish I would have continued to work. I loved my job and loved the people I worked with. It was exciting and gratifying.

I hope to retire at the end of this year. I do not want a big party or a party of any kind. I am just going to have a luncheon with a few of my closest co-workers. Our company does allow for a huge coffee with cake, and fruit, and sandwiches,etc.....
You are expected to make a speech-no thanks!!!!!
For those that like that type of thing, they are very nice, and you do get to see a lot of people that you don't necessarily get to see on a daily basis. That just isn't for me-I don't like all of the attention on me like that..
