Dollar General  going gangbusters and staying competitive.

It's not Macy's but there's one near me, actually there are several near me, but there is one very convenient on my way home from work and I find myself stopping in at least once a week for small items......pet food, for example.

I see plenty of shoppers in there buying sackfuls of items.   Convenient for them too.  I can be in & out much quicker than a  Walmart or grocery store.

Love DG! Stopped in this morning. Had an on-line coupon for $2.00 off $10.00. Bought sale items to donate to my local food pantry: One 12 pack of Charmin (sale and digital coupon) and one dozen cans of spaghetti and meatballs. Total: under $11.00.

Fave things to buy there include CG mascara, toothpaste, razors, trash and Ziploc bags, greeting cards, gift wrap and ribbon, office/ school supplies, Mylar balloons, Tylenol, cleaning supplies, Tide, dishwasher tabs just to name a few! I usually stop in about twice a month.

I don't shop at stores a lot, but when I do it's usually a type of discount store.  Whenever I go to the dollar store or Dollar General, I end up spending way more money because everything is so cheap that I buy more stuff!!

I read that.  I don't care one way or the other.  I do occasionally shop at some Dollar store, they are all the same to me.

Absolutely, software!  The Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Dollar Trees near us are going gangbusters as well.

For some reason, I've always loathed grocery shopping at our supermarket, but I don't mind popping in to Dollar General to stock up on paper items, etc. in the middle of the week..  Instead of a boring chore, it's almost fun...

I love the Dollar Tree & Dollar General, I find different things all the time and just pop in to check out what new items they may have!

Dollar General carries many nice seasonal items, after Christmas they had 80% off and I walked away with a whole cart full!

I also like to check out their food items, I found my favorite jarred spaghetti sauce a couple of weeks back that none of the grocery stores carry, and of course with manufacturer coupons and their savings coupons you can really get some good deals!

Re: Retail Good News

[ Edited ]

I have eaten many Dollar General (store brand) food items and they have been good, except the cereal bars. (like nutri- grain bars)

Also, they have Rexall and Dollar General Brand tyenol etc. I find the Dollar General Brand to work better IMO.

I love DG, we have one right outside our subdivision, walking distance. I find myself going a lot. You need an ingredient or want ice cream, pause TV and back in 10 minutes

@missy1 I use a few of the Dollar Tree medicines, the cold tablets, tension headache pills, for us they work better than the name brand you can find at your discount stores.

We also buy the Scottie tissue there, $1.00 a box, we like them just fine compared to the name brand.

I could go on and on about the Dollar General & Dollar Tree!

These work better than the name brands,

The snacks are a bargain.  Their brand of pretzels, cookies, and chips are $1.
