Re: Retail Bankruptcies Are At an All-Time High

The Toys R Us CEO said that their problems are not caused by on line shopping. He said they had so much debt that they have been unable to upgrade stores to enhance the shoppers experience.

He said they knew the stores were drab, dark and unappealing much like a warehouse.

Shoppers do not forget unpleasant shopping experiences. It is so hard to get customers back when they decide to walk.

Of course these stores are going out of business.  Young people wear workout clothes and eat fast food.

Sears and Toys R US are closing/closed  at the local mall in my area. Rumor has it that a theater may replace Sears which doesn't make sense since a theater  that was on the mall property closed a few years ago.

Re: Retail Bankruptcies Are At an All-Time High

I can honestly say I'm not shocked. Where we live, within a 25 mile radius there are so many duplicates of Macy's, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Sears, JC Penney's, etc. I've never understood why they feel the need to have so many B&M stores within such a small radius. It's even crazier when we start talking about fast food - McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell . . . you get my drift - same places within 3-5 miles of one another. It makes me wonder how they can all succeed.

What bothers me the most is the amount of 100% "dead" malls with brand new malls being built right next door. My area sure could use a moratorium on new building until existing structures are updated and repurposed.
