Just today, my friend ordered oil & vinegar dressing for her salad, and the bottles were GROSSLY gummy and sticky. Waaaay more grime than one day's worth. When told about it, the waitress didn't acknowledge the commentSmiley Sad

I typed a reply to this but somehow it disappeared. Last Saturday my Dh and I went out to eat at a nice upscale type of restaurant. We saw one of the servers walking around with a tray with her soft drink (which was in a styrofoam cup with a straw) and serving people food from her tray. Thank goodness it wasn't our server. We did ask our server to get the manager for us and we explained what we observed. The crazy part if it was that the manager didn't notice it until we pointed it out to him. He didn't seem overly concerned either even after we mentioned how unsanitary that was. So I guess my pet peeve would be staff serving food in a very unsanitary way and managers who would actually defend them.

My rants about the "You Guys" thing have been stated here many times. Perhaps it is an age thing since most posters said "everyone" says this. No, not everyone. When asked by a server "What do you guys want?" I orten say "I don't know what the guy (DH) wants, but the LADY will have..."

Most of the time this only gets me a blank look.

My new peeve is TV sets. On every wall. All playing some sports clips at full volume. Restaurants we used to go to have transformed themselves into versions of sports bars with big, big, big TV's. All the men sit with glazed expressions as they stare over the heads of the others at the table.

I have had many occasions to watch couples in these places since I seem unable to catch DH's arrention. He is looking up over my head.

I wonder if a table full of women would be able to get the channels changed to Lifetime or some soaps? If enough of us were to ask, perhaps restaurant TV's would just dissapear altogether.

There is no pride in taking care of customers and restaurant staff are not trained properly not only in customer service but in food handling and safety.

I don't enjoy dining out, I'm a germaphobe so its a buzzkill. The last time I ate out one months ago, I got violently ill from a Tuna steak.

Note to seafood lovers: Tuna (AHI Tuna, Tuna steak) has histotoxins in it that can even appear in canned Tuna. These toxins can multiply quickly when there are temp fluctuations. Never keep canned Tuna salad for more than a few hours. That is the word from my state Dept of Health. After I called to report the illness, they sent a team to the offending restaurant and found 15 critical violations.

I worry more about proper handling food in the kitchen that I will be served v. cleaning up the potties in the powder room.

If I ask for extra butter and napkins with my order I never get them. The food comes and I have to ask again and sometimes again. I also hate it when they put my pancakes on a dessert plate so there is no room for syrup. Dah

I had one waitress tell me they already put the butter on the pancakes when they cook them. What! The lady argued with me when I asked for butter. My fresh pie was not so fresh. I could hear her on the phone telling someone she wanted to vacuum but couldn't until we left. This was the owner too. We were the only ones in there, I wonder why.

These are just some complaints for fast food and lower end end eateries:

Please no spray cleaners or sweeping near me when I am eating.

No sticky vinyl tablecloths or crumby booths and chairs please

If you must carry the trays up on your shoulders, please wear your hair back. I don't need the tips of your unkempt hair in my dinner plate.

If your restroom is dirty and needs attention, I know your kitchen is not much better and I will be too turned off to eat there.

When I dine out at more expensive places, these issues are non existent. You get what you pay for as far as restaurants if you ask me.

I started working in restaurants when I was 15, and continued to do so for the next two decades. I will agree with you on every single complaint but one. The water spotted flatware. Without a lengthy explanation, I will keep it simple and say that restaurant dishwashers come in two basic categories (although there are others). Usually, the options are "high heat" or "chemical". Due to cost and efficiency, most establishments use chemical, which means that even if you see lipstick (really disgusting), or spots, the germs are killed. Even the chemical dishwashing machines have a temperature requirement. However, the high heat types are better for melting off lipstick. Also, they dry off super fast which reduces water spots. Every restaurant that I worked in, I was required to polish the spots off, and make everything shine. In turn, I asked my staff to do the same. However, just an fyi...that is actually a violation of code. Servers and staff should handle flatware and dishes as minimally as possible once they have been cleaned. Oh. Same thing with the plates. Because the temperatures aren't required to be as high, the plates are often wet.

Tip to germaphobes. When you order your beverages, also ask for hot water with lemon. Rest your utensils in the hot water for a few minutes. Hot water for tea is hot enough to sanitize flatware.
