I'll have to look closer next month. I've only had it active again for a few short months for some recent remodeling projects.
And I did have to switch utilities just last week from the guy who was alternating semesters with my daughter for co-op in a different city . . . as this year it is her "turn" to have lease & utilities in her name . . . and they did do a "credit inquiry" and no deposit required based upon score. While not a big deal . . . I don't like having to make deposits when they aren't necessary no matter how little money of mine they keep for "free" for the duration of time. Just a pet peeve of mine. So hopefully when she shows up in the town/apartment tomorrow she will have hot water . . . and electricity and Internet . . . as I told them to have the "office" let them in for the gas . . . and haven't heard from electric or Internet providers so hoping and crossing fingers all happens as scheduled! She had to head back early for the road trip to the bowl game so I got stuck doing all the arrangements via telephone.
Oh, neither do I. They make tons of money off of those deposits.
And good luck to your daughter!!
Thanks! They got back in her college town @ 1:00 a.m. on Friday so I'm guessing she is packing necessary items to last a semester in the other town . . . I'll head over on Wednesday . . . it will be her 21st birthday and I can't bear the thought of her spending it all alone & in a strange town to boot. I've got my 21 gifts and wrapping paper ready to roll and need to go to Dollar General and get a deck, or two of cards, IF I want to use all hearts . . . to sequence the gifts.
Then I'll spend a few nights and let the guys fend for themselves . . . school starts back for son on Monday but with NFL playoffs, NHL and our local hockey team . . . they'll be plenty busy and taking care of the dogs. And I will be returning her bunny back to her . . . we've been bunny sitting since Thanksgiving weekend . . . well my husband/her Dad has . . . as I didn't sign up for bunny caretaking . . . I've done kids, dogs, fish, bird . . . but I had to draw the line at the bunny.
Qwacker, that is too funny! I did the same thing when my daughter turned 21, 21 presents. I had never done the gifts to correlate with her age before but I read it somewhere and I thought what a great idea. Of course the majority of them were small and/or little tokens and memories of stuff we have done together and/or been through together. I had a bunch of our old videotapes edited together to the song "Just the two of us" by Will Smith. That was always our song because I was a single mom.
I hope your daughter has a great 21st birthday. I am sure you will be all choked up, I know I was!

I have one cc to pay off. No mortgage or car payment. Just regular monthly bills.
I never minded the mortgage, but despise ever having a car payment and never want one again.

Many of them are small and or less $ . . . probably two biggest are 4 wheeler luggage set in 26" and 21" Samsonite in Totally Teal . . . beautiful color . . . will coordinate nicely with her Vera Weekender and Duffel in Blue Rhapsody, one of my favorite patterns ever . . . then she can take one or both or mix & match depending on length of trip and flying or by car . . . and lots of other little things . . . an Adelle 21 CD, a big jar Yankee Candle, wick trimmer, and long tipped BIC lighter so there is three things that go together, I have them all typed up in a draft email to myself so I could keep track as I bought them all what with Christmas & everything going on . . . and a Lolita 21 wine glass . . . now normally I wouldn't buy or encourage something like that, but 21 is sorta a "right of passage" and I had a 40% coupon and 8.00 Hallmark rewards money so made it like less than 8 bucks instead of 24.95 . . . I'll buy a bottle of Sangria or something . . . I don't really think she'd like the taste of white or red wine but maybe a little Sangria with ice . . . we let her have one in Spain last year on our Med Cruise. It will be fun! We'll have a few girl days together, my Paula's Choice stuff for me & her have arrived and have a spa night or two or three before I come back home on Sunday or Monday next week. I've NEVER done the number of gifts to her age before either. I was joking with the twins at the Hallmark when I bought the Lolita glass, they were going to be turning 21 in about two weeks and said Hey this is a GREAT idea for your Mom, she'd only have to buy 42 gifts!!!! One was 6'3" and the other about 6'1" and both were preemies started out at less than 3#'s each . . . they shared that info with me after I commented how I always wanted twins then I was crazy enough to want triplets!!!! Tall & skinny & both worked part time at the same little Hallmark shop, sweet girls!

We are debt free. We have no mortgage. I use my Marriott Rewards Visa, but I pay it off each month. We have NO children so it's easier to be debt free.
‎01-03-2015 09:16 PM
I will never again have a mortgage or a car payment. If I can't buy with cash, I won't buy. I abhor debt.

We were debt free for a short time 6 years ago and hated the fact that we had no write-offs and had to pay more to Uncle Sam. So we went back in debt.
You have to spend money to make money. It's kind of like a Merry Go Round. Once you get on, you hate to get off because when you do, you're stagnant and not increasing your worth.
As long as DH is alive and feels well enough to continue working, we'll carry debt.

that is why the mortgage deduction on taxes will never die. although I wish it would. I get that they want to encourage home ownership . . . but don't think it is equitable . . . don't really feel like subsidizing them over renters. And yep I'm a homeowner without a mortgage.
It is an idea that has run its course.
Back when it was created the average home cost less than today's cheapest of the cheap bare basics vehicle.
I was glad when they discontinued regular credit interest as a deduction. No car, no credit card, no personal loans. ONLY home mortgages and equity line of credit . . . I think . . . I'm not a tax accountant . . .

Hey, Qwackertoo!! How are ya?
‎01-04-2015 12:41 AM
Pretty good, Kalli, How are you? Happy New Year!!!
‎01-04-2015 12:54 AM
Thanks! Been enjoying some time off over the holiday but it's going to end bright and early on Monday morning! ugh. hahaha!
I read your post at the beginning of this thread. So you'll have 2 in college at the same time? Bless you! But I know what you mean when you say you saved for a long time for this. We did the same. Our son's education was paid for by us and he was very thankful for that. He worked hard and that's all we asked. It's an investment we will never regret and I'm sure you feel the same way. He's got a great career and is self-sufficient. We offered the same to his older brother but he didn't care for college. His choice.
Happy New Year to you, too!
