ETA: About the breed of the dog...it's the owners that cause accidents, not a certain breed.
You are wrong about that. They are a dangerous breed. Pit Bulls have been banned in my county for over 25 years.
And just because they are banned doesn't make them a bad breed.
ITA!!! they are now banned here because the idiots at city hall bowed to the pressure! they were banned in two counties over from us and people showed up at a council meeting wanting to know why they had not banned them here!! they claimed people would be moving here with their evil pit bulls!!

What country are you in?
I know they have been banned in Ontario, CA for many years.
I don't believe in breed specific banning. The idiot grandfather had 10 unsupervised, near feral dogs. The blame falls directly on his shoulders.

It's impossible to have an intelligent conversation with people who don't take the time to read. I said COUNTY - not Country...... Secondly "pit bulls" are not a breed at all. They are a "mix"..... Do you know what your "pit bulls" are mixed with???
I'll just go this far and see how you all answer me.
Example:
If our dog gets loose, we worry that she will be stolen or hit by a car.
If a pit bull gets loose, the owner worries that it might attack someone.
Now, WHY is that?????

And how do you know this? That owner may worry s/he will get stolen or hit by a car.
You can't create a fictional scenario to suit an agenda. Just sayin...

And believe me.....if I see a sweet, little Pom or big ole docile-looking Lab, without supervision or without a leash, coming after with mence in their eyes....I GUARANTEE you I'm going to protect myself by punt-kicking them into next year. It's the act of the dog...not the breed.

If my son's Pit got loose I would worry that someone would keep him. He's as gentle as my Lab and my Dobie/Lab mix.
As for reading, I made that same mistake yesterday, sophiamarie. I believe it was an innocent mistake.
The Pit discussion rages on here and surfaces periodically. It's definitely a hot button topic.

the american pit bull terrier is a breed not a mix.

The little girl appears to need help, but the actions of her family have made me so skeptical, I almost believe the whole story is fiction.
In any case, it may be my own kind of selfishness, but I have friends and family members in real need - and their needs I can verify. I'm not donating to some Internet sensation of the day when I can actually see where my dollars are making a difference.

I would expect no different responses from people who, through their choice of dogs, have placed themselves in a position they're forced to defend. JMO

We have had 3 pit-mixes and they are all big lap dogs (2 have passed on from age and we adopted our beautiful girl 2 years ago this month). Most pits are gentle as lambs. But like any breed of dog you're going to have the aggressive one here and there. Even gentle dogs can be made aggressive... You can blame the owner on this!
