I have young adults and they use debit cards and/ or pay cash. They are quite responsible with their money. They save to make home improvements, buy cars and are choosy what they spend

For me I have not had any problems with dealing with QVC with any purchase I have made and lord knows I am probably one of their favorite customers. They have always handled every thing with kind responses or they would not have my money or support. I will continue to shop with them. I would like for them to carry more home decorator products long ago I bought a picture that is done on foil and all weather it reflects different on it. there is not a person who comes in to my home that doesn't make a comment on how it looks different every time they look at it and it is because of constant reflections on it. It is a beautiful picture.

I used to have a home based business (think Tupperware but it's not Tupperware). I'm just getting out of it because of a lot of changes. We are learning that all home based businesses like that are on the decline because people don't want to get together like they used to for the parties. They will do Facebook parties but those usually arent' as successful at this point anyway.

scottie, I read this in the NYT. Other than student loan debt young people have reduced their overall debt in the last 5 or 6 years. Good news!

Interesting about home based businesses. I remember the days when parties were being held just about every week. Candles, make your own fragrances, lingerie… It was a great way to see friends you don't see often and meet new friends. Sad this is becoming a thing of the past.

I think so, too! When my daughter was in elementary school, one of the moms used to do a Tupperware party about three times a year. We had so much fun, and everyone brought food. It went on until they were out of high school. I miss that.

For me it is more of a convenience but I really don't buy that much. Quality has gone downhill and the shipping costs are crazy. I do think TV shopping will be around for awhile though. Not everyone can get out to the mall.

This is really really good news that young people are staying away from credit cards. I've known kids that come out of college with humongous credit card debt (on top of student loans).

Yes, the parties could be so much fun. Mine was jewelry and I would always make sure we had a blast. I always gave away good prizes and made the ladies laugh. End of an era I guess.

I think some of the home party sales are still successful -- maybe it's sporadic, I don't know. A couple of my cousins have hosted Lia Sophia and Jamberry Nails parties with good results.Smile

As for televised home shopping, I really think they're going to have to come up with new tricks (including solid quality control) or they'll fall by the wayside. The thing that's not going anywhere is online shopping, in my opinion.

QVC will never "get back to that place" as times change. There was no world wide web, no Google, and no Amazon when QVC began. They now exist. Other than house brands, any "neat and unique" items sold on QVC can quickly be found at dozens, hundreds, or thousands at site -- most which offer the product more cheaply due to low overhead (no shopping channel to maintain, lower overhead, little if no marketing).

Just because we want things to return to the way they once were does not mean it can happen. QVC, in order to survive, will continue to focus on house brands or on items such as Vitamix where exclusive deals allow QVC to offer deep discounts. These items sell -- and sell quite well -- despite many here finding them "boring."I

If there is someone on these boards that can offer a sensible, logical, feasible business plan, you may want to apply for a job with QVC. If your only solution is to whine about missing the "good ol' days" while having no real or feasible solutions, what is the point?

Yeah, you can have good parties here and there but bookings, which are the lifeblood of the business, are becoming thinner and thinner in many places. Lia Sophia is one of the ones having problems.

What you have written makes a lot of sense. And accounts for a lot of the changes. THe elimination of some vendors that we love to watch.
