Re: Remember Valentine Boxes?

@PA Mom-mom, I love her box! It's adorable! I mostly remember one large box that the teacher decorated and we all put valentines into when I was in school.

I taught elementary school for many years, and I always had everyone make something at school to hold their valentines. I did a variety of things over the years; sometimes shoeboxes, sometimes the paper plate thing that was pictured in this thread, or just different types of paper things. You can take a file folder and staple around the sides and have them color/decorate it; that makes a cute holder, too.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!! HeartHeart

there are a number of schools now that have banned the giving of valentine cards for this very reason.

Re: Remember Valentine Boxes?

I remember making Valentine's Day boxes.  It was a painful day for the kids who were not popular.  The popular kids would get showered with cards and the less popular kids would get just a few.  By the time my girls were in elementary school, they didn't celebrate it in school but we did at home.  We'd make and decorate cards for each other and we made cupcakes together.

Re: Remember Valentine Boxes?

We usually covered a Kleenex box with foil and decorated it with doilies and hearts and maybe glitter.  Catholic grade school, we did Valentines for everyone. Most stores sold kids valentines, maybe 40 or 50 in a package.  Probably about $1.  Maybe if you liked someone, a best friend or boy, they may have gotten 2!

fun times.

@lynnie61 Those paper doilies! I forgot about using them. We could cut hearts out of them and glue them to the box. If we didn't have doilies, we could make a heart shaped "snowflake" with piece of paper.

Oh, that's great.  I didn't know if they still did that.  Yes, I would be so excited doing that.  Of course, we just used what we had basically and ours were never very fancy but we loved doing it.  I was always so afraid I would not get many valentines!

@PA Mom-mom   Your granddaughters box is darling!  Yes, we made a ton of snowflakes and hearts folding white or red paper.  My birthday is in January and my mom and dad always added some Valentine's Day stickers with my gifts!  Probably began my paper/stickers/ribbon/card obsession way back then.
