Remember Steve Perry of Journey?

He left the band in the mid-90s. This past week he appeared for three songs with a band in Minnesota. The voice was older, but when he got to the Journey songs: wow! He still has it (watched the YouTube video) even though his voice is a bit older and rusty. I can see, if he would want it, sold-out shows all across the country with people coming just to hear him again.

Ruins it for everybody when a popular band loses their lead singer, and it happened to so many 70's and 80's bands. How fortunate for us that we can still listen to the original music.

Re: Remember Steve Perry of Journey?

I saw a fascinating piece on PBS recently about a young man in the Philipines who sounds just like him!

I don't know if the band was looking for a replacement for him, but somehow they became aware of the videos this young man posted on YouTube, met him, and got him in the studio.

It sounds like he (Arnel Pineda) is part of the group now. From an article (link below):

Although he was once one of the most famous singers in the world, Perry appeared to retire from the music industry in the mid-90s, after releasing two solo albums. His last recording with Journey was Trial By Fire (1996). Since 2007, the band have toured withfrontman Arnel Pineda, a Filipino singer discovered by guitarist Neal Schon on YouTube.

Cakers, it was a great story about how this guy would go to an internet cafe overnight when it wasn't busy and do videos to post on YouTube. A nice story. I'm really happy for him and his success.

I agree.

I was so glad to see Steve perform though. Maybe he will start to sing again!

No one does it like the original Journey.

I think they are touring with Steve Miller right now. I haven't seen any concerts with just Journey.

When John Fogerty left CCR that was the end of them, too. He went through some turmoil in his own life. We saw him in concert last spring, though. Great show, great second row center seats and he was just friendly and nice to everyone.

Of course, he's the only one who can sing the CCR classics since he owns them.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Steve Miller with Journey but the tickets are kind of pricey.

A couple of weeks ago I saw The Killers, and they added "Bad Moon Rising" to the set list. It was terrific and was the only song of the night that the whole audience went absolutely crazy for.

sasha: To clarify - the lawsuits between CCR and Fogerty - should have been more specific.. That's where the problems were regarding who could and could not sing certain songs from the CCR days.

The Killers, to the best of my knowledge, have no ties to the former CCR.
