I remember going to the beauty shop ever Saturdays morning with my mama. She gave me a dime to get an ice-cold bottled Coca-Cola out of the machine that had the door that you opened to pull out your bottle. That is just one great memory of my childhood with my mama.

@Boomernichols Welcome!š„° Yesss! I remember the Blue Chip stamps! My dear mother collected them, but would have us kiddies actually put them in the books!š I would have given anything for a special roller to do so because we actually had to LICK some of them.š¤¢

I remember those red Coke bottle machines at the laundromat!ā¤ļø It would be unsufferably hot sometimes because of the dryers, so having an ice cold "Coke and a smile" was a refreshing treat!š There were times when we would pull into a gas station, just for the Coke as well!š

I remember during the late 70's and early 80's there was a movie theater called Movie City 5 (it had 5 theaters). Movies were 50 cents. I remember going to see all kinds of movies. Saw Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John 12 times.

We would have a fancy lunch at L.S.Ayres dept store tearoom. I recall the ladies there wearing suits or dresses and always hats. Then to one of the big downtown theatres to see the latest Disney animated movie. I remember going to see Lady and the Tramp, Snow White and Cinderella. I got a Cinderella wristwatch when I was six or seven.
@smoochy Welcome!š„° I thoroughly enjoyed reading of you dressing up as a young girl, learning the etiquette of fine dining, and can imagine just how EXCITING it was for your sister and you!⨠Lady and the Tramp has ALWAYS been my favorite Disney movie! I watched it MANY times with my children!ā¤ļø

@1Snickers wrote:@smoochy & all: I loved going downtown for lunch and movies also. I had to get a bath and dress up.
Sometimes we rode the bus. The Palace theatre had a lady who played the organ. Before the movie we sang songs following the bouncing ball on the screen.
Mama liked to get a piece of kitchen China for being among the first in line.
