Re: Remedy To Prevent Shoplifting

Life would not be worth living to me if I stayed home and became a hermit because of fear, realistic fear or not. Can't imagine living that way.

The metal detectors and all the rest are because of guns and other weapons. Every day no matter where we go we could become the victim of a mass shooting. But I don't stay home, I go to work and I go to movies and concerts and  everything else that I enjoy.

I would not be shopping in expensive stores anyway, not interested in having my handbag locked up.

Do they require you to take off your big winter coats too?  People have been known to hide merchandise under their clothes as well as in a large handbag.

Re: Remedy To Prevent Shoplifting

It is the general population who pays for all the shoplifting in the form of higher prices. So, if that is what they want to do good for them.

I would rather see criminal shoplifters prosecuted and jailed instead of released with such abandon, as seems to be the going trend.

I once went to an Ace Hardware store and my purse is always 9 x 7 or smaller anyway so that's not a big deal. Anyway when I entered the store the clerk informed me I would have to leave my purse behind the counter. I just looked at her and said no way would I let someone I didn't know keep my purse. They were just going to keep it behind the counter and not locked up.  I kept walking to my destination. Even if they locked it up I won't go back. No one takes my purse that I don't know. As for leaving it in my car that isn't going to happen either. To many people looking to break into those too. I just won't go back to that establishment. I don't trust you any more than you trust me.

Re: Remedy To Prevent Shoplifting

I totally understand and can sympathize with their new policy.  The theft epidemic is out of control.  That being said I would not leave my purse.  I would take a small purse or fanny pack if I wanted to shop there.

The Targets in our area have basic essentials that aren't even expensive locked up.  I have been walking out of a Target store when a guy was running out with a very large big screen tv in a cart.

And our sheriff's dept is trying to work with them to deal with it and they won't cooperate...Target I mean.  It is just ridiculous.

I'm not leaving my purse in a locker or in my car.  I probably woudn't shop there.

No. I don't need anything that badly, I would shop in such a store. I shop in Tiffany's and Neiman's and I guarantee their merchandise is worth just as much and they don't lock up my handbag. The very idea is comical to me.🙃🤣

@Trinity11,  But Tiffany's has everything behind lock and key and has guards at the front door, at least at the store by me.

Re: Remedy To Prevent Shoplifting

Thanks to all for your replies.

It seems to be leaning towards shoppers being on board with the new rule.

I would still definitely opt out of giving up the handbag to be put in a locker.  For me, it would be an immediate negative vibe before I even began shopping.
