Re: Relieved to Know Some FAA Safety Inspectors Are Returning to the Job

Fortunately some financial institutions are offering no interest loans to furloughed employees. A journalist pointed out the other day that there is definitely a financial burden for employees called back to work without pay who have to pay for childcare and are ineligible for unemployment. Some people are operating under the misconception that federal employees automatically make a lot of money and that is not the case.

This^^

So now they have to go back to work (WITHOUT PAY) and pay for childcare, gas to get to work, etc.... They are in the hole even more. I just can't imagine the position some of these workers are in. I pray this is resolved very, very soon.

My hope is that the people who do not understand the hardship of not receiving a regular paycheck even though they eventually will, at least realize how fortunate they are to not have this understanding.  How nice for them to be in a position in their life/lifestyle to just not 'get it'.

Hardship is not receiving a regular paycheck and not knowing when and IF you ever will,  The federal workers know they will get paid for all this time (worked or not worked).  It is a temporary situation.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

Hardship is also not being able to pay your bills when they are due... Showing up to work everyday not knowing when you will get your next paycheck.

While they may not know when, they do know they will.

Let's not forget those who will most assuredly be irrevocably harmed by this -- those contracted to the federal government.

Historically, contractors have never been paid their lost wages from a furlough, and most likely the consequences of this furlough will not be any different.

And these people are unable to pay their health care premiums.  There is no government paying for their health care, a support that helps furloughed federal employees.  I wonder if there is any relief for these poor people.

Several decades ago I worked for several companies who had large contracts with the federal government. In other words, I was a contractor.   During that period, there was -- fortunately -- never a furlough.

People who are hired to do a job should be allowed to do their jobs & get paid.To furlough people or force them to work without an immediate paycheck is unfair. Their lives are turned inside out.

I personally know a young couple who have both been furloughed. They can’t make their mortgage or student loan payments. They also just lost a deposit they put down on a wedding venue because they couldn’t make the final payment.

Perhaps they should work on increasing their savings if they are in such a dire financial position.  Most employees have only missed one paycheck.

@CrazyDaisy  Easier said then done. They are young & just starting out.In order for them to have savings they have to be paid for their work.

Also not everyone is fortunate enough to make enough money to pay their bills & save at the same time. It took DH & I years before we had a decent savings account that could cover our bills in case of an emergency!!
