Recliner Shopping................

I want to buy my husband a new recliner and am looking online to begin with.

Any ideas from anyone out there???? I can't seem tor remember the names of the furniture companies from years ago, like Bassett, etc....... Sears has some but they are just sold at Sears but are not Sears furniture. Very confusing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..... TIA Smile

Re: Recliner Shopping................

Last year, we bought a La Z Boy for me at one of their stores. The model is the Journey Power recliner. I absolutely love it.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Recliner Shopping................

Since I've slept in one for about 25 years now! I know what I like and do not like in recliners.

1) They have to have a footrest that comes up high enough to almost lock out my knees.

2) No leather or vinyl for sure as they sweat too much and take much more maintenance.

3) Prefer internal buttons 2 control angle of incline. Don't have to reach around arm of chair

4) Make sure it reclines to at least 75-80 degree angle, close to flat for me.

5) Not particular about brand as I look at the underside and see if it is built to last.

Now I am assuming your husband does not sleep in a recliner so you probably can get by on much less than what I insist on with any recliner I buy. I've seen too many that have a footrest that does not come up high enough to be comfortable for me, even just sitting in it, much less trying to sleep in it.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

We have a Franklin recliner. I like that it's comfortable and they're not cheap on the padding. We have an electric one. If the power goes out, there's a battery backup.

Got it at JC Penney, several years ago, and we've never had any trouble with it.

Like John, I wouldn't get one without a footrest, and I'd never get vinyl or leather, either.

Hope you find what you want Smile

Re: Recliner Shopping................

We bought La-Z-Boy leather a several years ago, maybe 2005. They were a special, but turns out not so darn special after all. They were originally 2,000.00 each . . . on sale for 1/2 off . . . one of the largest leather rocker recliners they offered. At the time they were big enough for an adult and small to medium child to sit in together. That said . . . and they were 100% leather all over, the color of the very dark chocolate brown leather faded in areas the body touched . .. OR . . . . it rubbed off. I'm guessing the leather wasn't vat dyed or whatever . .. very disappointing . .. now they look like retro or vintage leather recliners.

I will NEVER buy La-Z-Boy again. I have a leather La-Z-Boy sofa, extra long and extra deep seating, nice for laying on or napping . . . and that leather has been just fine.

I'm looking at getting some Flexsteel Leather recliners with the nail head trim . . . and I believe even their recliners have the 8-way hand tied springs in the seats.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

A couple years ago, we bought all new furniture for our living room which included three La-Z-Boy recliners. They hardly ever get used but are very comfortable. I have slept in mine a few times when I was sick and couldn't breathe lying down and it was fine.

Others have mentioned Flexsteel and Franklin which, I understand, are two very good brands as well.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

My parents had a set of Lazy Boy recliners and said they'd never buy another. I think the reclining mechanism was cheaply made in both and they were expensive leather chairs.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

I too was going to ask for recliner suggestions. We bought leather one about 4 or 5 years ago

I believe it is a lazy boy. Well anyway it is splitting in numerous places and is looking quite worn.

We had some problems with the mechanisms as well but the furniture store we bought it at were very good about repairing the problems.

My husband appears to be pretty rough on recliners and I am needing something I do not have to replace so often.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

I recently bought a power recliner from Costco. Not sure of the brand name. I really like it, as I will probably sleep in it and it is so easy to operate.

Re: Recliner Shopping................

I hate recliners. My husband loved his. We had three of them when he passed away. Over the past year year I got rid of them. My preferred furniture co furniture is flexsteel. Love the elegant look and they are as comfortable as a recliner. Flexsteel does do recliners and they are very comfortable but I hate the look.
