I have always found my own listings of home I was interested in. The realtor just get me in the door.

Be sure to check Zillow! You can find lots of good rental properties there.

I take it you are moving out of your apartment? Did the ""crazy"" neighbor ever move?

Maybe it's a local thing but realtors in our area do little with rentals. Private home rentals are usually advertised in the local weekly newspaper or posted in workplaces, churches, stores. Anyone I know with rental properties act as their own agent as opposed to paying someone to show the properties.

Apartment complexes have their own rental offices.

This is pretty much my experience as well. I think I'd suggest a multi pronged approach to this. Try to find a different realtor, search the classifieds, check Craig's list, and drive through areas that you are interested in living near to look for posted signs.

You are on quite a time crunch, so I think you have to tackle this from several different angles if you want to find something that really suits you.

It will be easier to find an apartment than a house or duplex, as they tend to put out more signage and ads, and there are more of them available that houses, but I wish you the best of luck.

Ford, try using Zillow.com and specific rental houses in the area you want. There are also many other options to choose from to look for like 2 or 3 bedrooms, one level, how many bathrooms, etc. I hope this helps. It shows you pictures of the home and sometimes you get to see a 360 of the neighborhood. Also shows the map.

I see someone already mentioned Zillow. I will second that. It's a good site.

Id look in the local papers for rentals. (I wouldn't use a real estate company to look. I think most are more interested in selling then renting)..There are also rental websites. that are safe that my niece used when she was renting (she moved a lot over the years so she used websites a lot w no problems). I would NOT use Craigslist.

When I was looking to rent after my divorce (im remarried now) I looked in the paper and I found a beautiful apartment at the time with a landlord who was amazing (not a slumlord like some). He happened to be a relator but I didn't know that till I got my place. Never had any problems. (Too bad you don't live in my area, Id give you his name!).

Best of luck, I hope and pray you find something soon!

Ford, what about the little booklets they sometimes have in the racks at the entrance of some of the convenience stores and supermarkets?

Look on Realtor.com and search for rentals. Even a realtor who doesn't handle rentals will find someone who does and they get a referral fee for doing so.

The form they sent you will have to be printed out, filled out, and faxed or emailed back. They require the same info as if you were buying and will even check out pets! My daughter just went through this in 2014.

Good luck in your search. Try Realtor.com. You can narrow it to a certain area or zipcode so you don't have to waste a lot of time. Good luck in your hunt.

You need to find a new realtor. This woman is totally unprofessional and gives those who take their profession seriously a bad name.

Ford, you may have already tried doing this, so if you have, please just disregard my suggestions. Smile

Have you or your daughter tried looking in your newspaper classified section for rentals? I still think that many people might still use that section to advertise in. It might be worth checking out.

I live in a rural area, and we also have free newspaper supplements that are put out by our regular newspapers. They also have a classified section, too.

sounds funny, but it is pretty good.

I was just poking around Complicated's site out of curiosity. The site came up with a large number of hits for my area.
