True ... but so what?
That tax deduction for charitable contributions is available for people at any income level. It's not only good for legitimate charities, but also for churches and religious organizations.
It encourages people to give. I see nothing wrong with that.
So why give that deduction to an oligarch?
I donate directly to my charities of choice. For me, anything with Ellison isn't.
And no, that tax deduction is not available to everyone. The 2017 tax changes made sure of that.
See post #26.

Unless he has stolen the money, I see nothing "obscene" about the amount of money one accumulates.
Just like on this forum, one shouldn't tell others how to spend their money, I wouldn't venture to tell Ellison what he should do with his money.

Your comment is strange .... exactly WHAT makes you think wealthy people don't give to charities?
Serious question.
Not only do wealthy give to other charities, most of them start their own charitable foundations to direct the cash flow to causes they personally care about.
So you deliberately post misinformation and then run away?
Or, if this was a mistake on your part, you just let it stand?

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me who he is.

A very old guy who will be in control of TikTok from what I understand, like Musk took over Twitter. It's not good for the country as far as I can figure. 🤷‍♀️

The tax credit is based on income so the wealthy benefit a lot more than the rest of us. There is always fine print with these guys that benefits the super wealthy more than anyone else.

Also like Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Inc. Major platforms that are controlled by Meta include the social network Facebook, messaging app WhatsApp, social platform Instagram, Twitter rival Threads..

@Linmo wrote:This may be a topic for a new thread but why do people love tiktok so much?
Full disclosure, I'm not someone who is into social media.
I am sure there are many reasons, but the kids obviously love it for their silly videos while most adults and businesses use it for revenue and or their job, literally.
There are TikTok Shops which I believe QVC has one now.
BookTok is huge for the authors like me with book recs that can literally make or break a new release.
And of course it is the haven of the modern day influencers which make all kinds of sponsorship money and collabs as the kids call it. For me it's like the zoo.
There are a lot of interesting people in this world.
I am not on there very often, but I came across a 27 year old trust fund girl who is getting married next year who is supposedly writing her first novel which is how it got directed my way, I guess.
Spoiler alert: she writes nothing. She only tells you her outfit of the day, which boutique fitness classes she likes the best in NYC, what $5000 handbag her fiance recently bought for her, and a tour of her favorite spots in the Hamptons.
I guess it's a living, but I wasted five minutes of my life to realize I hang better with the crowd on Bluesky.
