What an obscene amount of money for one person to own.

Re: Larry Ellison takes over...

Not up to date who he is, but wish these big money people would give to charities. Who needs that much to spend?

I believe he made all this money and what he gives away is his own business.    Maybe do a google check on the "billionaires" and find out who he gives to........

Philanthropy and Sponsorship

Larry Ellison is a generous philanthropist. By 2004, he had donated over 1% of his wealth, a not inconsiderable $150 million. The focus of his philanthropy is on medical research, projects in Israel and education, including donations to Stanford and Harvard Universities. For example, he donated $5 million to start the Lawrence J. Ellison Musculo-Skeletal Research Center and $200 million to the University of Southern California to establish the Lawrence J. Ellison institute for Transformative Medicine of USC. His role as a sports sponsor is well-known. He is famous in the yachting world for being the sponsor of Oracle Team USA and of the yacht team of USA 17 in the America’s Cup. He is a competitive yachtsman himself having crewed in the second race of the America’s Cup in 2010.

Re: Larry Ellison takes over...

I think what they do with their money is their business.  But it is well known that most of these billionaires donate millions and millions ever hear.  They just keep raking in the dough.  Believe me, there are a few billionaires in power that give nothing, I mean, nothing.   Mr Ellison isn't one of them. He gives above and beyond.

Personally, I always thought it was the utmost in humanly possible power, to have an overabundance of wealth, so much so that you can donate to whatever, whomever you want, as often and spread around as you want.  This doesnt seem to have been my personal station in life for this kind of abundance tho.

And still, I remain incredibly grateful when I've been the beneficiary of such abundance by others, & not just by their spread monetary abundance.

And then there are more who prey on people to grow their millions and billions. Or there are those who pass bills that benefit only the super wealthy.  I can think of a lot of grifters off the top of my head.

@Shanus

Your comment is strange .... exactly WHAT makes you think wealthy people don't give to charities?

Serious question.

Not only do wealthy give to other charities, most of them start their own charitable foundations to direct the cash flow to causes they personally care about.

Re: Larry Ellison takes over...

Larry Ellison donates an enormous amount of his personal wealth through his Foundations.

Re: Larry Ellison takes over...

Well, according to Forbes, he's not number one today. I'm not sure what difference it makes to me.
