Maybe I'm getting senile but I usually use Rakutan and when I would go to the site and select QVC it used to say "earn 1%" OR "earn 4%" OR "earn 10%".  Yesterday I could have sworn it said "earn 4%" but their confirmation email only gave me 1%.  There is no way to know for sure what it said because what was there yesterday isn't necessarily going to be the same as what it says today.

Is it my imagination that before you KNEW what percentage you were getting before you placed the order because it was in the box at the top of the page but now it says "up to x%"?  Do you now you have to read through the different categories to see what percentage you're getting back?  There was a box at the left of the screen, but again, I could have sworn it said "4%," not "up to 4%."

I know they would always offer different percentages in certain categories but the most common, general, percentage was always stated on top and you had to click through the other catgories to get those different percentages but something seems to have changed.   I would always print out my order, write the percentage on the order, and when the Rakutan confirmation email arrived the percentage was always a match but not this time.

As I said, has something changed in the way Rakutan is presenting things on their page and I just missed it?   Am I the only one who got caught up in this because it seemed so simple before but now seems more tricky and you have to pay better attention.  I guess I'm mad at myself because I would have checked some of the other cash back services if I had realized Rakutan was only giving back 1%.  Grrr!

Re: Rakutan Question?

[ Edited ]

@Melzie  HSN was 4% yesterday. QVC yesterday, and today, said up to 4%. It depends on the category you purchase from on QVC.

So, to answer your question, yes, you will need to click to see which category pays what.  When I use Rakuten for eBay, it always says up to 1%.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@Melzie   I think that is new, mine says "up to 4%" today.  I double checked Macys and it says "activate 2%", not "up to", so I think QVC has changed what it's paying.

FYI, I always double check Mr Rebates against Rakutan, and have found that Mr Rebates pays more.  Today, it's 3%, but shows that electronics are 1%.

I guess I'll have to check the details going forward on what is excluded.  Target does the same thing.

Thank you for the heads up, I would have thought the same as you.

I see that apparel and shoes are the 4% and all else is 1%.  I wonder if hadbags are considered apparel because I was waiting for the rebate to get higher to purchase a Patricia Nash bag, but this may be the little push I need to not buy it.

I used it & it said 4% on clothing (might have said fashion -not sure) & 1% on everything else.

I noticed a change, too. It was late Saturday night when I made a purchase and I was going to use Rakuten as it was 4%. But then I saw that it depended on what you bought and I've not seen that in the past that I can recall. So I went right on over to TopCashback as it was 4%, also.

I have the Rakuten app. A box appears on any site that uses this and I can choose to activate or I can use the "remind me later" option.

Thank you everyone.  At least I know I'm not the only one that missed the subtle change and will be more observant going forward.  Thanks and have a great day everyone!
