Re: Raining - cancelled fireworks

[ Edited ]

If you've seen them once then you've seen them... It wasn't nice here in DC today, but they went off... and from the sound of it, all of them in entire region... I'm personally glad they're over. Just a lot of noise for a few minutes of sparkle... And besides, the animals hate them...

Re: Raining - cancelled fireworks

We had them  Saturday. The next town over had them yesterday. It is raining and I hear some now. A never ending celebration around here. Happy 4th!

We had hunting dogs so they were used to having guns shot off over their heads and the fireworks never bothered them. When it would thunder our Daisy would go to the window and snarl & growl at the lightening. We lived near an Air Force Base so she would do the same when helicoptors went over the house very low.

As it turned out the rain stopped and a nearby community had their fireworks after all so we could see the high ones from our camper. I just love fireworks.

No official fireworks where I live.  The fire danger is too high.

And that's okay with me.

It's so oppressively hot here, you couldn't have paid me to go!  The humidity is so bad, just stepping outside will take your breath away.

Re: Raining - cancelled fireworks

I love fireworks! The kind that the city or a big event set off, that is. Not a big fan of the 'home, do it yourself' kind, because most people have no idea what to do with them to be safe.

I believe if you live in a town or city, those home fireworks should be illegal, as they present danger to others nearby. We live in the country and some years we have had a few to set off, but nothing big or that lasted more than a few minutes.

We skipped the nearest municipal fireworks this year (first time in about 20 years!) as we were having company and a birthday party during the time most were scheduled. Kind of sad to have missed them.

Here too. Ours were postponed until Friday. I'm kind of upset because DS is going to visit a college friend and won't be home to see them. But I hope we can catch a baseball game when he comes back and before he leaves again for college!

I just spent 6 nights at the Disneyland resort. We saw fireworks every night 60th anniversary. Memories for a lifetime with the grandkids. Tonight I am staying in as it is much more relaxing.

Having lived 10 min. from Disneyland for several years, I often did what many locals did and still do - drive to one of the surrounding side streets about an hour early and then just sit in your car and watch - seeing them fairly up close in perfect comfort.

The entire time I lived there, all summer long I never needed to look at a clock - I always knew when it was 9 pm.

i guess the fireworks went on in D C  -  but PBS felt they had to replace live  footage with footage from past years in their broadcast -  reality wasn't good enough apparently. they are calling it the "Milli Vanilli" of broadcasts.   Hollywood hits PBS?
