Some of my relatives insist they are descendents of European royalty. I mean.......they truly believe it.

I'm confused. I thought it was wrong to question someone's self identification.
It's getting hard to keep up.

Aww, Let Rachel identify with whom ever she wants to identify with. We're a little bit more understanding of transgendered and the LGBT community , let Rachel be black if she wants to be black.

I think the issue is that she fabricated stories about her past, and misidentified her race in order to take advantage of scholarships. Many African American are actually okay with the idea that she identifies as black. It's the lying about her lineage, and the use of deceit for financial gain that is the problem. Whether she has a race identity issue, or if that's even really a thing is still up for debate.

She is most definitely a fraud. If she identifies with black culture more for whatever reason, I do not mind that one bit as I don't think the majority of people care one way or another. What she did though was absolutely disgusting because not only did she take away opportunities from actual black people but she also made false allegations about racism where there was none. Like her own brother said, she created more racism and what she did was akin to wearing black face. She filed false racial harassment reports claiming that she was sent envelopes with racist material, made two other complaints about nooses left at her home and also claimed that there was a swastika taped on the door of another place of employment. All of those complaints have been dropped because there wasn't a single shred of evidence they even happened and I am positive it didn't. Then she pretended her adopted brother was her black son.
If all of that wasn't enough, on her FB page she actually advised black people how to view "12 Years a Slave" giving them helpful tips. Among those tips was that if you had to watch this film in "Whitopia" to get there early so you can get your choice of seating. Sit in the back of the theatre so if white people are inclined to stare then they actually have to turn all the way around to do so. She repeats to sit in the back phrase several times and her 2nd reason for that is when white people look to the blacks in the audience "for their black response" they again will have to turn completely around to do so. Her final reason to sit in the back row is so you can sit next to like minded people so you won't be distracted by the white people snickering at awkward or inappropriate moments. She then goes on to compare herself to the slave character and then said when Lupitas character made the dolls it brought back memories of when she was a little girl making dolls with the same husk type of material.
I honestly don't know if she is just a completely disgusting liar and obvious fraud or an unwell woman who is mentally unbalanced.
I find her pretty gross and I would like to see her brought up on charges for giving fraudulent information on her applications.

How anyone could excuse her, is as nutty as she is.

Interesting the anger she generates.
She's certainly not the first person to make stuff up to get undeserved benefits - or make up fake victimization.
Not defending her - just observing that it's just interesting that some liars are more vilified than others.

She presented a black man to the public as her father. Then she said that there was no biological proof that her white parents were her parents. That's quite beyond fake victimization.

If you're referring to the transgender thing, I think this is different. I get how it's possible for the brain to go one way and the body the other way during fetal development. There is some science to back up that theory.
However, regarding race or ethnicity, you are what you are. You can have empathy for, or identify with, but you can't identify as.
At least that's my take on it.

@occasionalrain wrote:So where is the outrage for those who are black passing for white? That's gone on for centuries.
First of all I don't think anyone is "outraged" about Rachel. It's just a curious story, but not one of a kind. Secondly, if you know your history, you know white people were more than outraged by those who passed as white, and you also know the reasons why it was easier for blacks if they could pass for white due to the abject racism and discrimmination that existed in this country... and apparently STILL does.
