ROYAL BABY TO BE BORN IN LOS ANGELES?

[ Edited ]

As I was scrolling news reports the following headline caught my eye...

Meghan wants the baby to be born in Los Angeles.  It went on to say that Meghan and Harry are checking out hospitals and are interested in Cedars Sinai where Beyonce had her twins.

Being born in America will automatically give the child American citizenship.  They also want to buy a house in Los Angeles where the child (and/or future children) can spend a lot of time while growing up.  One specification is that the child be educated in England.

                                  ------

Personally, I doubt the Queen will be very happy with the news.  I would imagine she will not approve of it and just might tell them they cannot do it.  Of course Meghan and Harry can turn around and tell her it is their child and they can do what they want, however, the Queen can say it is her great grandchild and it will be born in England, down comes the hammer, bang, so be it!!!!!!!   There is a price to pay when displeasing the Queen, therefore, no one does it.  More drama!!!

With an American parent, the child will be a US citizen regardless of where it is born.

I wonder where this came from?  It seems like a strange thing to discuss while on an official state visit.

Did the writer of this "story" forget that Meaghan is no longer a US citizen?

according to an article i read, it takes several years to become a british citizen, so she is not a british citizen yet.

her child will be american also with dual citizenship.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace confirmed to CNN that Meghan will, in fact, become a British citizen — a process that takes a number of years. But they added it was "too early to say" if she would retain dual nationality. According to the the UK government's website, Markle would have to live in the U.K. for at least three years before starting the process, anyway.

Markle could choose to renounce her U.S. citizenship after she becomes a British citizen—but she doesn't have to. Royal expert Marlene Koenig put it this way to Town & Country: "If she remains a U.S. national, her children will have dual nationality just like Madeleine of Sweden's children."
