Regarding Eddies's tongue cancer in 2000, he said in many interviews (you'd have to google for specific articles), he's always said that he (and his Drs') believed it was holding the metal guitar picks (possibly toxic metals back then?) in his teeth for so many years that caused his tongue cancer.

Much later, when they discovered he had lung cancer, it had spread to his brain.

I always wondered about Eddie and Valerie. They were, after all, married for 26 years, although the last few years they were separated. 

I like to think they still loved each other but just couldn't make it work out.

Actually they weren't separated, they had divorced and were both married to other people, his current wife was Janie Liszewski, a beautiful actress and stuntwoman, who he married in 2009.

Valerie and Eddie separated in 2000 and after 7 years estranged, they filed for divorce.

Actress Valerie Bertinelli married financial planner Tom Vitale Saturday, her publicist Heidi Schaeffer told the Associated Press. The 50-year-old Hot in Cleveland star and Vitale, 49, had been dating for seven years and were engaged in March.

This is the second marriage for Bertinelli, whose ex-husband, rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen, and their son Wolfgang, were among the reported 100 guests that attended the ceremony held at the actress' Malibu home.

ETA: His current wife janie, was also at his bedside when he died, alongside Wolfie, Valerie and his brother Alex, who was his drummer in his band.

Yes, I knew both remarried. Eddie's brother, an ordained minister and drummer in Van Halen, presided at his wedding to Janie. And what I meant by separated the last few years I mean of their marriage. They married in 1981 and Wolfie, their son, was born in 1991. Still, I wonder about them...
