RETAILER TO START CHARGING CUSTOMERS FOR RETURNS

Oh boy ..........

I just came across this and was horrified .... if the link doesn't work, just google H&M charging for returns.

The retailer will start this trial policy in Norway and the U.K.

I'm stunned they think this will work ... anywhere.  Why not be like the rest of the retailers and just charge more?

What do you think about this .... under ANY circumstances, could it work?

Haven't many stores been charging a restocking fee for years?

Since it's purchases made online that get returned to their stores, I'm not surprised.  Items purchased online are frequently not carried in every store so many times end up marked down or transferred out.  They may also have online promos not in stores and vice versa.

Also, the link does work. Just fyi.

I suspect a free market and capitalism will work....and they will lose business. People have many choices where they choose to shop for clothes. Competition works. I, for one, would not buy from a store that has a special charge just for returning something. I like good customer service. That is not good customer service.

How much tax deduction do you suppose they take for any losses they incur?  Now they want to be reimbursed by customers too?

There are some buyers that abuse return policies. There are some that purposely purchase for a one time use, then return. I see this as an attempt to cut back on that.

I'm already reticent about buying clothing online because I like to try on my clothing first, not just to make sure I get the right size, but to make sure it looks how I thought it would on me.  This would just further discourage me, although I have never bought anything from H&M in-store or online.

I rarely return - no matter who I order from.  It won't  affect me.

For big items like computers or electronics, yes, but  I don't think restocking fees for clothing is happening .... very much, if it is.

Re: RETAILER TO START CHARGING CUSTOMERS FOR RETURNS

I've stumbled across quite a few when Holiday shopping; they tend to be small, niche online retailers that I normally don't frequent. I always read the return policy of any online store since I shop (and direct sent) the majority of time online.

Paying a restocking fee usually means I won't shop from the site.
