Thank you for your desciption of your library experiences. I, too, was a Library Assistant in my Junior and Senior years. My parents had transferred me from a local Catholic High School - where I had many friends with the same educational background.
I was sorta lost in the large public school. The Librarian took me under her protective wing. And, of course, I became very familiar with the DDS since I had to put the returned books back. And help other students use the DDS to find the books they were looking for.
I will never forgot the Librarian's kindness.

@AnikaBrodie I was also a library assistant to the librarian in high school. I still remember I book a found there that I woud never have otherwise looked at named "Captain from Castille" What a odd thing to remember. Not my usual type of book at all, but stayed in my memory.
We also have a very good library in my town and thankfully it is a member of a consortium so there is a wide range of books available us. A shame our local library orders less books because of a local tax levy not passing.
I look on line at Barnes & Nobel site for new books coming soon and put them on reserve at my library. I stay up too late and read way too much! Right now I have 3 books to return to the library and a stack of 6 to read and see that one I have on reserve has been shipped to my account at the library.

We had 2 or 3 Worldbook Encyclopedia series. Not too long ago, I wondered if they were still relevant with Google and ChatGPT.

I homeschooled our daughter till the 4th grade. The first time I took her to our library, as we were checking out the books, the snarky librarian asked, "Can she even read?" You have no idea how much self control it took for that conversation to not go south! Daughter had to be tested before entering public school. She tested 2 grades above her current level. The librarian later apologized.
BTW, does public school still publish A-B Honer Rolls?

@Kachina624 Both are great, but they're completely different experiences in my opinion.

The schools in this county do not publish Honor Rolls anymore.

I haven't been to a public library since my daughter was in high school. It's hard to believe that these days libraries don't require people to be quiet and respectful of others. I don't know why I'm surprised though.

You just reminded me of a contest I won in high school. It was a speed test on who could look up a word in the dictionary. I loved Schoo,l except for math and I still hate math.
